For me it was a tough call between Yzerman, Selane, and Sakic... but I went with Yzerman.

Although I prolly should have thrown in Alfredson into the poll. In fact.. why did I even put Roenick? He's a whiney little bitch.

No way is it Stevie Y his peak has from like 88-94

Roenick and Shannahan don't belong on that list and The Big E's best work was done before that.

Nicklas Lidstrom far and away. In the last 10 yrs he has won 3 cups, a conn smythe, 5 Norris trophies, 8 First All Star Team Selections, Olympic Gold, Olympic All Star Team selection.

Who the hell picked Lindros? He was one of the best in his heyday but he really sucked the major suck the last half of his careet. Why did I even put him on that list?

Although.. the Legion of DOOM was fun to watch back in the late 90's.

I don't like Roenick, but he DID have 7 seasons where he was over 100 points. That's pretty damn hard to do. That's more 100+ point seasons than MESSIER ever had... in almost half the seasons.

Lidstom's good.. but the most he's ever put in .. in a season is 80

Even though we're only three years into his career, I think it's Alex Ovechkin. The guy has godly talents and is better than Sidney and by the end of his career he's going to be the best European player ever. Also Alex has the coolest personality ever, he's a great interview, and he plays a physical game that just hasn't been seen in awhile. He's going to be the poster boy the NHL for the next ten years at least. However, if you want to take Sidney and Alex out of the mix, I'll go with Jagr. No one was more deadly with the puck when he was motivated. He was terrifying on the PP and probably a top five offensive player in history. If only he didn't get moody he would be talked about with Lemieux and Gretzky.

You also have to take into account that Lidstrom is a defenseman. That's automatically going to reduce his score potential.

LOL!! NOT. I live on the edge of DC and watch his interviews all the time and it's like interviewing someone who came right off the immigrant boa.

"I uhh.. score goal because... goal is good and losing bad"

hah...

I WANTED to pick him seeing as how he's the main man on my team... but I figured he still has another year or so to prove he's one of the best. If he get do 4 straight seasons at or around 100 points... he's #1 in my book. I just want to make sure he doesn't start to slow it down.

I picked Yzerman because he's tested and true.. but right now when it comes to pure skill I'd say

Ovechkin
Selane
Yzerman
Sakic
Crosby

I'd put Ov over Crosby simply because OV's got way more goals. If Crosby and Ov can prove themselvs consitent over the next 2-3 years I'd put them in the top 2

I didn't even think about that... If we're going to best out nu-school defensemen then I'd put Sergei Gonchar (another awesome guy that caps just decided they didn't want anymore) up there with him.

All time defensemen... Some would say Bobby Orr... but I say Ray Borque.

Chelios was good too just because he was a badass... Stevens too, but theynever put up the numbers Borque, Gonchar, or Lidstom have.

When you have a defenseman tha can score 60-70 pts a season consitently... you gotta keep that mother fucker.. another example of how Ted Leonsis is a whiney little bitch that throws hissy fits when he can't win and dumps the players he should be keeping. The man has no loyalty.

WHy the fuck u gonna trade GONCHAR, BONDRA, and SCOTT FUCKING STEVENS in the middle of a contract. Thank God Ted came to his senses when Ov was gonna fuckin leave for Montreal.

Sorry.. just ranting about the caps. It's like the past two onwers BUILD their teams around great players ... Joey Juneau.. Al Iafrate and then dump then after a single year of not-so-stellar stats. WTF

I don't think you have a very good grasp of hockey...

Roenick 7 100 point seasons.... you better check that again.

Gonchar is garbage. He can run a power play but is liability in his own end.

I've always felt that the measure of a great player is how much better they make their teamates.

No way is Bourque better then Orr....

You want to know the numbers that matter (especially for a D-Man) Ice Time, Wins and Cups.

Lafrate and Juneau were not great...

Right now the best in the game are Vinny, Brodeur, Sid, Alex O, Nik Lid (no Lid on D and Datsyuk and Zett aren't at the top of the league) Kovalchuk and Iginla. If Alfredson can win this year throw him in too.

If you are talking SKILL you might want to put Alexi Kovalev and Hemsky in that list (who is nowhere near great)

I'm suprised that Selane hasn't gotten ANY votes while Lindros HAS. Lindros was great the first half of his career then totally lost it.. no consitency...

Or even Sakic... Sakic's has 6 100+ seasons. His presense kinda reminded me of Yzerman

How many times has Selanne been the best player on his team? How about Eric?

Sakic is a stud.

Man Lindros didn't lose it, Scott Stevens fucking took it. I've heard people say that Lindros in his prime was the most dominant player in the game. I mean this guy was on the 91 Canada Cup team as a 18 year old, a team that featured the godly talents of Lemieux and Gretzky when they were in their primes. The guy was so hyped that his trade virtually created a modern dynasty in the NHL and enabled another team to get a new arena. The guy was ridiculously hyped and an amazing player and not to mention some would consider him the Heavyweight Champ of the NHL in his prime. If he could've just kept his head up, the guy might be the greatest player of all time. Think about this... the guy has over 860 career points, averaged over a point per game and is probably going to the hall of fame, yet he's still considered a disappointment

Was that a rhetorical question? I'd have to check my stats, but he's probably been the best player on his team for most of his seasons.... maybe the same ratio as Lindros. He and Kariya were quite a duo. I don't know what the hell happened to him the second half of his career though.

Nik Lidstrom.

You don't have to check stats...

Teemu was second fidd to Karyia in his first stint and Neidermyer his second time around.

I'd still say Teemu is a better player than Kariya and Neidermyer.

I think he just came back out of a semi-retirement.

Nah, no he's not

Since you like stats so much,

During their time playing together Kariya averaged 1.24 ppg and Temmu 1.22 ppg

and Kariya 3 First Team All Star Selections and 1 Second Team Selection vs Teemu's 1 First Team and 2 Second Team while they played together with Ducks.

Who won the Conn Smythe when the ducks won the cup?

Now you're just splitting hairs. Not only are these numbers almost exactly the same, but you're just picking a totally arbitrary timeperiod to compare them.

Besides. first team all stars are selected by the fans. Just because the fans like you doesn't mean you're better. What does fan popularity have to do with skill?

And who won the Conn Smythe trophy that year? Their GOALIE... not Kariyra. What's your point? We already had a discussion on the best goalies ever.

You're thick.

You said Teemu was the best player on the Ducks.

I said he was not during either one of his stints with them.

Arbitrary... ? That would be comparing Teemu's Shark years with Paul's Predators.

1st and 2nd Team All Star Selections are not the same as being voted into the All Star Game. They are an end of year recognition voted on by an assembly of writers. I'd say a fairly accurate account of who are the preeminent players during a year...

And Neidermyer won the Conn Smythe when the Ducks won. When Jiggy won it Selanne wasn't even playing for the Ducks, and the Ducks never won the cup that year.

Face it Kariya was the better Duck Teemu's first time around and Scott was the better his second time (maybe even Pronger too)

I don't think Kariya's better than Selane, but I'll concede the fact that they're probably about at the same level. You convinced me of that at least. Selane's put up some really huge numbers, but Kariya tends rto be more consistent.
