The dangers of inhaling mold spores.

Maybe the old hands could clarify this, in light of recent confusion and nonsense.
It's my understanding that brown and black mold should not be inhaled, but are there others to avoid like the plague?
Is trich really harmless to humans?

ive always heard that certain pink contams can be extremely harmful as well. at the time I was new to growing and actually sniffed the shit to see if there was an odor, only to find out that is not smart either.
i dont recall getting sick from it though.

Good call Picklez. I remember once I smelled an old casing that seemed to be stalling and because I couldn't see any contams I opened the bin and took a good whiff.
Well right under the surface was a bunch of brown mold spores, and I could instantly taste them you know.
I got some major lung irritation, light burning, coughing, lungers, but in about 6 hours it was gone completely.
Learned a good lesson that day.
This prolly should be in the Contam forum huh? Sorry.

Any fungal spores in enough concentration can cause respiratory distress. It doesn't matter if they're mold or mushroom. Because of so many previous edible grows, I'm horribly allergic to the spores of H. ulmarius, and simply can't grow that delicious species anymore. For me, it causes lung inflammation and a migraine headache that doesn't go away for days, on just a slight exposure.
Persons with AIDS have been found to have trichoderma actively colonizing their lung tissue, so if anyone here has AIDS, they'd be advised to provide plenty of fresh air to their projects to ensure they don't breathe the spores.
Many new growers have a hard time differentiating the difference between breathing concentrated spores from fungi, and eating mushrooms from a substrate that is moldy, which is harmless.
Much more can be learned on Google than here. Type 'mold' 'allergy' 'spores' for a start.
I'll move this to the contamination forum since it's off topic here. RR

This thread was moved from Mushroom Cultivation.
Reason: This will be on topic in cultivation.

Damn, but it sounds rare, like only a few cases, maybe I didn't search enough.
