Hello, this is my first post.
I seem to have a potential problem. Please help me out.
I bought culture syringes from MushyMart and added 4 bags of hardwood substrate. They sent everything I ordered, and a couple of free petri dishes too, which was cool.
The bags were taped at the top, which was surprising since I figured they would have used an impulse sealer instead. No problem though, as long as it was sterilized. One of the bags seemed funny though since it looked like there was fuzz in it. It could have been my imagination though.
A few days later, I inoculated the bags with after flaming the needles before and after. It seemed that one of the bag had fuzz all over it the day after, and smelled like dirt instead of wood too, but I thought it was my imagination. 3/4 bags contaminated. So what went wrong? I had a rate of under 10% of my jars contaminating years ago, so this was definitely surprising. I have a bunch of wild hypotheses, but who knows?
The petri dishes that I never removed from the bag they shipped in contaminated too. So maybe the contams were on their end? Do I contact the vendor?

Contact the vendor. They're a shroomery sponsor which means they honor their customers.

It sounds like the bags were not pre-sterilized, or they'd have sealed them somehow. RR

I've yet to contact the seller but I did gather supplies to make my own bags.
Pictured are: 100 large filter bags 1 small bag natural hickory wood chips 1 pressure cooker, 4qt jar capacity 2 qt jars 40lbs natural hardwood pellets 2 1.5lb organic wheat bran 2 culture syringes, shiitake and lion's mane 2 5lb bag of gypsum

I guess I'm going to use the syringes to inoculate liquid cultures. The gypsum was near a dollar a pound. I wonder how many bags 10lbs will go. Anways, my goal is to make my own shiitake spaghetti, using home grown shiitake, homemade whole wheat noodles, and my own sauce too.
