Embarrassing things you do when no one else is home?

I confessed this to some friends the other day while we were all tripping on acid, but yeah, I've been listening to old fifties tunes when no one is home, a lot of Elvis, and practicing the Twist in our spacious living room. I just wanna be able to bust out all these old timey fifties dance moves at the drop of a hat.

Nothing wrong with the tunes... but the twist? Haha!
I've been known to attempt singing Ella Fitzgerald, Neko Case, and other such femanine voices when nobody's around...
I'm a deep baritone if that paints a proper picture. It ain't pretty.

Once I have the Twist down, it's on to the Charleston.

Here's one... I'll willingly sniff my own farts. Always nice to get some of your own odor. Nothing quite like it!
If that doesn't qualify as embarrassing I don't know what is.

Well yeah that's a given, but not embarrassing. Our friend Matt, me and my roomies all love him and all but...dude...just cause you got a copy of the keys to our apt doesn't mean you can drop in without calling first. Dude walked in on me blasting Okkervil River, singing along while taking a crap with the door wide open the other day.

It just occured to me that maybe I am not easily embarrassed because I can't really think of anything.
I dance around in front of the mirror a lot. I'm rather vain.

Ever since we were little, my sister Miriam and I both like to play Music Video...which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, in front of a mirror.

That's awesome, hehe. My fantasy is to one day have an entire room lined with mirrors. I personally believe that mirrors have supernatural and shamanic qualities. I had an intense Goddess-type experience while shrooming and staring at myself in the mirror last weekend. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I don't fear the mirror in the slightest while tripping...I used to, but not anymore. i've faced death in the mirror, and the fact that my godawful father's genes are expressing themselves through my facial structure, and if I could face either of those, I'll be fine with whatever else the mirror can throw my way.

GROOVY! I feel a little self-conscious while dancing still, since I am unskilled. I need to find a way to help myself totally break loose. (the only way seems to be just not giving a shit and breaking loose! )

When I'm out and about, it usually takes drugs, low doses will do, to get me totally unlocked and lacking self-conscious. And the right people, too, of course. When I go to CoSM with some of the folks from this very message board it's easy to let go.

What I like about dancing is the way it can induce trance. It really works. I have yet to really lose myself in a space where there are other people also dancing, but I think it's because I have latent social fear issues.
When I dance I like to let my body choose what it wants to do and what movement feels right. I have this belief that particular body movements can open gates to other dimensions, so it's important that I learn how to utilize this. Sometimes I can envision Krishna dancing around me with his flute and that helps let go. This entire discussion will probably help the next time I dance, because YES, it is my goal to be in a state of liberation and letting go at all times. Especially when it comes to bodily movement...
Also yoga moves tend to come out when I dance. Trance and dance! I need to get out and dance more... that much is obvious.

I am so self conscious about dancing I feel stupid doing it even when I'm alone in my apartment. Like the neighbors downstairs can tell how terrible I am by the way the floor creaks

I've got such a spacious living room. We really need to have a party here, you and the MA crew can drive down and we can have an acid dance party. I actually have some dates in mind...but rather than send out invites and not be able to have the party, like I did last time, I'm going to wait to make sure I have the apt all to myself that weekend...my roommates' band is playing at a festival, hopefully they don't lend their rooms out.

I'd be soo down. Last night I was hanging out with my shroomy friends, and I just looked at them and said, "Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. OMAR. I need to go to NYC."
Actually dude, I didn't tell you this, but last weekend when I was tripping I had this spasm to PM you ASAP and let you know that if you EVER wanted to visit Boston, you're more then welcome to stay with me for a few days. I just got an urge to make sure you knew there was an open invitation and to let you know how APPRECIATED you are.
One of these days...the stars will align and then we're going to have SUCH a tripped out adventure.

You know, I kind of assumed that open invitation was there! But it's good to hear it, too! And you know you've got one standing here as well. We gotta get these two crews together, seriously. There's like, what, six or seven of you up there? And there's six or seven of us down here. We need to compromise on location, and rent a cabin in Rhode Island or something.

Totally! I can see a mobil trip of some kind happening if I can just rally the Shroomerites up here. It would feel SO GOOD to let the worlds collide. Oh hey, do you like to camp? The cabin sounds enticing.

I haven't camped since NE2K5...and I had to borrow all my gear from suffer! That being said I DO like it.
Tell ya what. I'm gonna start researching cabins for the spring, equidistant from NYC and Boston.

Dancing is fucking awesome!
I do it at home and at shows, parties, or whatever. I have very little rhythm or style but I get down!

Thanks, Lion. I like hearing about other people's dancing tendencies.
I think I gotta throw caution to the wind and just let loose. I think that will be the only thing which will feel good and satisfying to me now. I just gotta let everything flail and go where it wants. I cannot restrict the energy...must let it flow...

I'm the same, except I'm worried about my neighbours upstairs too. If that's not bad I don't know what is!
I usually try to wait until they go to work so I have the 2 hour gap in the middle of the day to dance all crazy. Oh and of course it's way more fun if you're also wearing an appropriate outfit...

oh yeah, everyone dances when they're alone. how can you not? i know i do. the strange thing though, is that i'm so comfortable with my roommate (he's been my best bud for like 7 years) that we break out dancing together. not like together, together. just in the same room. the kind of dancing you do alone, it just happens that there's another guy in the room dancing too.
also, when i'm really alone, sometimes i'll essentially play dress-up. which makes me sound like a little girl. but it's like this strange mixture of vanity and goofiness. last weekend i was a cowboy. or a stripper dressed like a cowboy. had the hat, the belt with holsters, the bandana around my neck, and a pair of skivvies. in my defense, i was the lone ranger the night before at a party. so i don't normally just have cowboy dressup stuff lying around.

Me, my roommate Ryan, and our upstairs neighbor Beth have dance parties on the regular. I don't feel ashamed around them at all, I'll even Twist.

Partially blind and dancing do not go well together. Thus, I'm chickenshit.

haha I dance like crazy when I am alone at home! I love it! When I'm at a show, I still dance like I want to, but there's just something about dancing when noone's watching that helps it to flow better.
I like walking around naked when home alone, but it's been too cold lately, so it's sweats and socks for me. I don't really think I do anything that I would be embarrassed about except some of my loud singing. It gets pretty bad.

Fellow closet dancer...
Once, I was playing Terrapin Station for my friend (it was his first time hearing it), and we ended up dancing around like lunatics acting out the music. During the intense musical part, we grabbed pool sticks and pretended to joust with them... then during the calmer part, we made peace. Or something. It was kind of interpretive, I suppose.
We're an odd bunch.

It's fun haha...
I won the "most random" superlative in highschool if that tells you anything about me... so I probably would've done that in public actually. My friends started swing dancing in the middle of a busy starbucks once.
All this talk about gatherings... anyone from the carolinas?? lol

I've been known to watch old 1970s Doctor Who episodes - the Tom Baker era.
I used to be a huge Who fan as a kid and I now find them hyterically funny.

This thread is awesome...I'm so glad I stopped in to read each entry!
Dancing, singing, jousting, cartwheels...lovely self-expression y'all.
I dance in front of the mirror and away from it when I just want to move in a large space which the mirror doesn't cover.
Right b/f I turned 18 I figured I'd never get a chance to do it again so my best friend and I both did cartwheels on Younge Street in Toronto (Like 5th Ave in NY). We watched for months for the opportunity to do it w/o getting killed. There was some construction going on that blocked part of the traffic on one side and we both agreed..."This is it!". Then we beat it on down into the subway where we were going anyway. Hee hee.
I like dressing sexy alone in my own room. Sometimes I tone it down and let my husband see me like that. I'm 45 after all... I no longer need to get his attention "like that". It's sufficient to get into bed dressed in a skirt and let him discover that there's nothing under the skirt but moi.
Anyone remembering the Naked Men Thread knows that when Tiny R.B. says he was in cowboy stuff and his undies....it was something to see!
Two straight guys sharing the same space and dancing just because they love the music and want to move and are comfortable with the other there is SO cool and together and with it and stuff like that there. See...told you I'm 45...I just gave you my best '70's positive expletives.

We were actually taught how to dramatize dances in Jr. High gym class (circa: 1975). It comes easier to me now but somehow feels juvinile due to my association with it. I'll do it if you will Moth dear.

wow...seems like I'm not the only person that dances when there's no one else around
Singing at the top of my voice is another one. I'm a pretty decent singer but I have a problem singing in small groups but when I'm alone I basically throw my own little concert.
And of course there's my favorite activity

the discussion has really started to go off-topic, which isn't a huge deal but the topic itself is a little uncanny to wake up to. I'm an undergraduate anthropology student and I am in a field methods of cultural anthropology class right now. Simply I have a research project where I am in a rather truncated amount of time trying to collect information and present it at a state undergraduate anthropology conference as my final. my topic is: What college students due in their free time when alone. I am in the process of creating the survey right now and I think I am now going to put on there dancing.
As far as dancing goes I do dance on occasion, most often in front of a mirror. Most often though I spend my little bits of free time outdoors or in front of a computer.

Oh, and when I am alone I often have mock swordfights with imaginary people in my living room, using my broomstick or pieces of wood I have lying around as weapons.
I will absolutely deny this if it is ever mentioned again.

Jens Lekman is awesome, but the real questions is: have you danced to I'm From Barcelona yet?
I'm From Barcelona is probably one of my favorite bands for embarrassing dancing, I'd probably be dancing right now, but my dogs are sitting on the couch with me and they're so warm it's making me sleepy.

Things I do when no one else is home... hmmm.
It doesn't happen all that often, and when it does I generally shroom. stEmbarrassing things that have occurred as a result of that include:
- Pissing myself
- Thinking I pissed myself
- Looking into a mirror and experimenting with the different muscles in my face
- Getting aroused when looking out a window
- Dancing to the sounds of the washing machine, and not realizing it at first
The list could go on for a while, but I'll leave it at that. Outside of those kinds of things, my alone time isn't much different than my "together" time.

Lol...
today I rapped and danced the entirety of Rhymenoceros vs. Hiphoppopotamus in my kitchen.
When I'm at my parents house I talk to my dogs a lot in really strange voices.
I make really strange faces in the mirror.
I make strange noises a lot.
I'm generally very strange.

All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake. -Erik Davis
