Return from the EMERGENCY ROOM.
    #7963007 - 02/01/08 12:26 AM (16 years, 23 hours ago)

Well to start I had about 9 jars of myc growing (first grow). The two strains were Alacabenzi and Cambodian from spores 101. About two weeks into colonization they got the purple tint to them. So i decided to trash. I guess it was a moral issue and I decided that I grew it so I would properly dispose of it instead of trashing it and letting who knows get sick from it. I used my contained breathing apparatus and gloves and every safety method you could think of. didn't even breath close to the jars or touch without gloves. Magically it somehow got to me. I read up on the purple and found out it can cause meningitis. About 24 hours later I had a sever headache, fever, flushy face and sore neck. The signs of Meningitis. So I wen't to the ER about 24 hours later and they concluded that it was not meningitis. But that there is nothing (like antibiotics) that they can really do. Ive felt like total shit for two days and the doctor said that it is just the biggning and than im "in for a rie" I know we have all been warned about recycling jars but I just thought maybe this would convince people that it's not worth it. Insomnia has set as well oh and aches to. There is no real conclusion of what I have besides a fungal infection. A good thing he mentioned is that pretty much the only people to get meningitis are HIV positive or people that have cancer or in other words people with really really low immunities. So yes. This quickly ended my short time or drug cultivation. I was smart about it and I guess just wasn't for me. But take my word for it, now I know why people on here insist to throw away contams. Do it. -Gabe

that sucks, but if they don't know what it is... how do you know you got sick from the jars? just a thought.

Sorry I didn't put that right. The doctor called poison control and they have had this report before(mushroom related) It's not like a huge mystery, its just an infection. I think he said viral but im not sure. It's safe enough that he booted my ass out and told me not to be stupid. I was told it just has to take its course. I guess you could call bullshit on me but I wouldn't waste my time to tell you all this. Probably the last time I get on the site again. For my own good. So I figured I would try to make it meaningful. There was a small period where I looked at the jars closely and whatnot without the breathing mask on.Right at the time I noticed the contam. Although the lids were on tight, dry verm about the myc and tinfoil tightly on top. Who knows. Whatever happened happened. My message... unless it's between two sexy legs DONT FUCK WITH THE PINK.

By "puple tint" I mean they were very very light puple/ pink shades on the mycelium. Not bright or dense. just some shallow spots at the base of the jar. If you search it im sure you will read more about it. It's worth your time. trust me.

your need to look up mycotoxins, they can cause serous ailments, and many times be extremly hard to get out of you body, many contams are also carcinigins, meaning they can cause cancer

i dont think it will matter if you in or out your still being exposed to them, though if it was inside the spores will be in and on everything in your house, good luck and i hope that you get well

It wasn't the F'ing Jars, thats the dumbest thing I've heard all day.

The doctor said viral and fungal? which one is it?

I smell :glittershitz: in your self-diagnosis of cake poisoning.

Good God almighty... What? Reminds me of some corny 50's flick. You can defintely get sick from mold of Fungi. But the story doesn't add up. How do you know you didn't eat bad fish or something? Did you explain to the good folk in the ER that you've been messing around with fungi? I don't trust any docs or interns but myself, lol. At least you allright, thats what matters, but I think you obsess a bit to much on the mold/virus. Anyone know how to make a bacteria/virus hybrid? For world domination.

Good, because if you are doing "drug cultivation" you are at the wrong site anyway. This forum is for "mushroom cultivation". There is a BIG difference. Those who choose to cultivate mushrooms and discuss cultivation methods and techniques do so with compliance to their local governing laws.

Btw, this entire story is a little off. I've got kids in day care and they bring home the most horrendous viruses you could ever imagine. My wife and I are always getting the type of symptoms you mention. Unless you're huffing on contamed cakes I think it's unlikely that it was the cause of your sickness.

Dude, you probably just got sick from a cold, I doubt it was mold spores or you have some psychological issues (my father got sick and threw up when ever he seen hair on the floor from a animal)

If you had on a respirator I guarantee you it's all in your head.

I once inhaled a small cloud of black mold the most deadly mold known to man and it instantly caused my chest to tighten and my lungs to close, I drank six cups of water and felt fine a hour later.

He probably got sick, read the horror stories on the web, seasoned his illness with hypochondriac tendencies, and the doctor probably let him believe whatever scared him straight.

"...mmmm, yea. It's a virungal infection."

Yeah, after all, who gets sick in January huh?

As far as I know, fungi spores can invade your lungs, and then you need strong antibiotics to kill it off, but most peoples immune systems are plenty to fight off fungi.

I do agree though, that cleaning a contamed jar is not worth a dollar.

Of course, as you get better at mycology you really don't get contams often.

I am not a doctor, but I am pretty sure you can't get meningitis from fungi, can you?

This thread has been closed.

Reason:
Off Topic.

Inhaling concentrated mold spores CAN make you sick, but a slight tint at the bottom of the jars was much more likely to be simple metabolites that are harmless. If the doctor said 'viral', I'd go with his medical degree over your own paranoia. Please don't spread nonesense here.

If the jar was full of mold spores, especially black ones, I've suggested for many years to either toss out or PC before opening, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
RR
