does Lana who knows everything have an answer to this? If you don't use a proxy server how much trail do you leave behind when you surf ? Freebie services have a lousy reputation for logging all your whereabouts but if you're going with a regular paid up account ? The whole idea of my every step being stored for future reference is a hive giving thought. My choice finally was to get WebSecure. Am using this right now. Seems ultrareliable and transparent. Gaaad I wish I'd gotten with this sooner. Is all my filthy porn site and alternative lifestyle history up to n ow a matter of public record ? Fugggggg. FYI there is a private company somewhere out in the midwest that has the most massive and complete database in existence on every logged commercial transaction of just about every american and anybody else here that uses any non-cash payment system. Larry Ellison the CEO of Oracle wants to create total merged databases of every discoverable fact about everyone. This freaking candy coated nazi is serious and with the new climate of the father-state knowing what is best for you playing right into his hands your cloak of invisibility better be good.

Very interesting...
I'll be honest with you dendritic44 I have no idea how long of a trail people leave when they are online.
Why? Well, it really depends on which sites you go to, whos servers who walk through ...etc etc.... One site may only log your IP address while another may log your IP, your OS, your countries location, the time you vistied their site and how long you visted the site and each page within it.....
I've seen logged data from a variety of web sites and its amazing the info that they can compile.
I think its good to go through a proxy server if you can, although to pay for one... eh? The only reason I say that is because now you're concentrating all of your info into one place.
There is/used to be a secure proxy service by a comany called SafeWeb....they were very popular for a year or so. Then it was announced that they were owned by the CIA.
If you use one proxy server to go to all of the sites you "really like". Then it would definitely be easier for LEO to find you.
Then again, I don't follow much on pay based services so, maybe the company you listed above is fine.

this was in the april 14th new york times magazine. excellent article titled Silicon Valley's Spy Game
ABSTRACT - Jeffrey Rosen article expresses fear for Americans' privacy as government starts enlisting California's Silican Valley to create technologies that would allow it to monitor and profile potential terrorists as closely and carefully as Amazon monitors and profiles potential customers; focuses on profiling system developed by Accenture and Oracle Corp's idea of consolidating hundreds of separate state and federal databases into single Oracle database, using centralized credit-card databases as model;

the main point, freinds and neighbors, is that all those little bits of information about you and everybody else might end up gelling into a noxious unstoppable blob that a government in the future might unleash in your direction
my fave helpers: sygate pro firewall, dendritic44 rated a+
