I used to use it, I was...'corrode' I'm pretty sure. Although I haven't used it for like...two years haha. Do they have an add-on for iTunes? Cos if so, I'll definitely do it again.  :sunny:

But I fucking hate it now... the best part... that being the journals is fucked up now.

Plus, the algorithm is fucking stupid. Longer tracks get fucked over... so those of us that listen to jazz will never really have an accurate depiction of what we listen to.

But yea.... if you want an idea... there's my page

I stopped using it because the fucking program slowed my computer down so much. I just downloaded iScrobbler today for my computer though, so I'm using it again. jewwunnit is my user name.

BurningBeard: What do you mean it'll fuck up the stats? I listen to jazz pretty often, but I don't know shit about how last.fm works.

It fucks things up because it calculates by number of tracks...

So even though one might jam jazz a lot more often... because jazz tracks tend to be longer, they will be under represented.

Same with any track that's long.

Inversely, punk is over-represented.

But I'm just kinda grumpy too... so don't mind me. Hahaha!

Yeah... they'll know.. but the point is that it's not accurate.

And plus, I think it takes the idea of listening to music and fucks it in the ass.

Who gives a fuck about stats and lists? It's music. Enjoy it.

Who gives a fuck about id3 tags, etc. etc.

Just enjoy your tunes.

Ever since I've stopped using it I've felt oddly liberated.

I don't give a shit about the stats, and in fact I never used it and don't see myself using it now that I have iScrobbler. I have heard it can be nice to get new music recommendations. That's all I give a shit about.

I love Pandora.

But I download a lot... and my computer tends to be its own radio station.

So... Pandora when my comp is unavailable.

I think I have deep emotional scars that I try to heal by downloading as much music as I possible

I went from 8,000 songs to 12,odd in a month

I actually wrote an article about how the sheer magnitude of music available to us can somewhat desensitize us to it... it's on my last.fm profile linked above... Confessions of a Digital Dillinger is the name of it.

I shall read it tomorrow, I'm off to get high, but I'm glad someone else thinks this way

I seriously have no idea what the fuck to do with the amount of music I have, and sometimes the sheer task of going through all of it genuinely depresses me

depends on how you take it in. i can feel music wearing out when i listen to it during my daily routines.

but sometimes, some times, i might be laying somewhere on the grass with an mp3 player and my headphones on, and find myself hearing a song that just happens to touch the core of my being..

The .mp3 is killing the concept of the album.

you have to be one dedicated music listener to still give a fuck about the album as a cohesive whole.

Not enough do as I see it...

Even though I eat it alive... at least I still jam albums at a time.

The whole industry is single-drive anymore. :frown:

I still listen to whole albums *gasp* But when I don't have a lot of time, I just put the Winamp on shuffle. I also tend to download whole albums and absorb them that way, rather than downloading their hits.
I understand the rant about longer tracks getting unrepresented; I listen to a lot of epic and extremely long track music, but grindcore gets the top slots because the tracks are pretty short and there's lots of them. I like grindcore a lot though
The way to keep it all interesting to download new albums and delve into different sounds. That's one of the great things about lastfm. So many new bands I've not checked out. I also like the Events page for keeping track of what's going on gig wise.

Its rare that I listen to individual songs or play a shuffle list. The industry is going to collapse for sure though. It might have a chance to rebuild itself but I can't make that call. I would like to point out that it is the industry that is crumbling, not the artform itself.

You beat me to it.

I read an article in which the author said, "The record industry is dying, not the music." And this is nothing but good in the longrun... but I don't know how I really feel about ipods, .mp3s, and the digital revolution as a whole. I love the convenience, but I hate the overwhelming mass of stuff that has to be sifted through.

Which is exactly why I wrote about it on last.fm... before they neutered journals and effectively killed the coolest part of that site.
