I shall read it tomorrow, I'm off to get high, but I'm glad someone else thinks this way
I seriously have no idea what the fuck to do with the amount of music I have, and sometimes the sheer task of going through all of it genuinely depresses me

Well check it out.
Yeah... I feel guilty at times... it's so easy to snag whatever I want that it's kinda sad.

depends on how you take it in. i can feel music wearing out when i listen to it during my daily routines.
but sometimes, some times, i might be laying somewhere on the grass with an mp3 player and my headphones on, and find myself hearing a song that just happens to touch the core of my being..

The .mp3 is killing the concept of the album.
you have to be one dedicated music listener to still give a fuck about the album as a cohesive whole.
Not enough do as I see it...
Even though I eat it alive... at least I still jam albums at a time.
The whole industry is single-drive anymore.

I still listen to whole albums *gasp* But when I don't have a lot of time, I just put the Winamp on shuffle. I also tend to download whole albums and absorb them that way, rather than downloading their hits. I understand the rant about longer tracks getting unrepresented; I listen to a lot of epic and extremely long track music, but grindcore gets the top slots because the tracks are pretty short and there's lots of them. I like grindcore a lot though The way to keep it all interesting to download new albums and delve into different sounds. That's one of the great things about lastfm. So many new bands I've not checked out. I also like the Events page for keeping track of what's going on gig wise.

Its rare that I listen to individual songs or play a shuffle list. The industry is going to collapse for sure though. It might have a chance to rebuild itself but I can't make that call. I would like to point out that it is the industry that is crumbling, not the artform itself.

You beat me to it.
I read an article in which the author said, "The record industry is dying, not the music." And this is nothing but good in the longrun... but I don't know how I really feel about ipods, .mp3s, and the digital revolution as a whole. I love the convenience, but I hate the overwhelming mass of stuff that has to be sifted through.
Which is exactly why I wrote about it on last.fm... before they neutered journals and effectively killed the coolest part of that site.

Who's the group leader? It would be cool if he'd create the discussion board for the group.
