.6 pounds of manure and two quarts of wbs? Sounds like you have at least twice as much spawn as manure. I'd say three to four days tops. Hopefully, that's a very small tray. You should be using at least twice as much manure as spawn. You have it backwards.
Why are you worried so much about light? Light becomes a pinning trigger at full colonization, and has no effect prior to then. I colonize jars and substrates right next to a large 4 tube fluorescent light fixture that runs 12 hours per day.
What was verm doing all over the top? That makes no sense at all.
88 to 89F is at least ten degrees above the temp that will deliver maximum growth. Sounds like you have some reading to do.

Well is that the temp around the sub?
The sub being that big will be 3 to 5 degrees hotter inside so at 80 its 85 inside and doing good. A
t 85 outside it 90 inside it and getting Bacteria growing and at 90 its 95 inside and probably doing damage and slowing it down and helping bacteria.

You missed a hyphen flamewar-provoking-asskissing child  . And some simple search on here will answer all your questions about temp and what is generally accepted. Room temp is fine. Light won't matter until full colonization. You don't need FAE for incubation but you sure as hell need it for fruiting..etc etc to point out a few flaws :P

From what I understand, others much more knowledgeable than myself have pointed out that stamets did his experiments with mycelium cultures in agar. This does not take into account the thermogenic effects of colonization.

You need to open your mind and stop reading that one guys findings as the bible.
Thats what he finds the best and we have stated what we like. So its up to you to decide but I have seen that article a few times and always seen what he had to say and I don't say he is wrong just difference of opinion and you wont change us just quoting it over and over we have seen it.
So come up with your own finding but don't try and change us with quotes.

RR knows his stuff man, and Stamets knows his stuff, so does Hyphae, Blue Helix, Magash, Roadkill, Monstermitch, Wronguy etc..
But these peeps do not all agree on everything.
Stamets is writing about a different species all together than cubes, so it's not all equal.
Temp drop is not a pinning trigger, and light will not trigger pinning until the sub is finished and vegetative growth has halted, IMHO.

The science of mycology is progressing very fast, and what was written 25 years ago isn't necessarily accurate today. Perhaps if you got one of stamets' later works, you'd see he no longer uses that 84F to 86F figure, nor does he recommend incubating in total darkness.
I take it a step farther by recommending against 'incubating' at all, having found over my 35+ years of experience that room temperature is the best compromise between speed of colonization, and contamination prevention.
apokkalyps, regardless of whether you agree or disagree, learn to compose your questions accurately, and if you can't do that, don't flame others for failing to read your mind. Furthermore, don't come in here quoting somebody's book, as if it were etched in stone for all to believe and follow, or be stupid. That's not how it works. I can point to a book that say the earth is only 6,000 years old and god rides a cloud to heaven, while angels blow trumpets, but that doesn't make it so.

You DON'T NEED A HEATER in fact a heater will most likely lead to a sour smell (RED FLAG) bacteria.
