Ok, so tap water is ok for intial rinse of grain? I refuse to soak the grain in tap though. Only spring or distilled. That's just me though. I have no gypsum and wouldnt know where to find it anyway. Ialso have no coffee water, unless they mean cofee. I guess the idea here is to rinse, soak, and cook the grain(gently). Correct? Load jars, and sterilize? let's do it, i'm doing it now....need a beer first..

dont be dumb. just soak in tap water for 24 hours. then take pot bring to boil(just to get hot so it dries faster) and dry out grains. load jars and you done.
you dont need gypsum nor coffee. they obviously help and if you can execute moitsure content of your grains, gypsum is not needed.

Fred soaks his rye for - 36 hours in tap water.
king tut the 100th then - rinses with hot tap water very well
mother sha-bob-oid - then lets the rye drain for about six hours prior to loading into jars.
George A-hole butch then pressure cooks the rye for 90 minutes at 15 psi.So, one and a half hours.
Now, if you still have problems after this my dog suggests you repeat the soak process for ten hours and use two tbs of instant coffee to 1 cup/mug and repeat the soak/rinse/dry/PC process.
If you still have problems, you are hopeless lol j/k, it can take awhile to get rye down man, just try what Luna the master ferret suggested and I'm sure you'll be OK.

true that. U.S. tap water is fine for all mycology projects.
Most tap water is river, well water that has been filtered and a little chlorine added to it. The chlorine goes by by as soon as you heat it up. The result might be a litle carbon which we all know that mycelium loves it. i will say though. i wish i would have used distilled water in my pc when i sterized my glass plates. There are mineral deposits on them now. I think I need some CLR
