Barley malt LC question.

I read some previous posts on Barley Malt Sweetener as a LC medium. SHould I add corn syrup as a dextrose source? I know it's 1/2 tsp of barley malt per 1 qt of water. Should I add some syrup? I am making 6 jars, filled half way.

It's usually one or the other, though I see no reason why you couldn't use 3 or 4 things that all work.
Basically it's 4% sugar you want.

I would just add the malt. I use 1/2 gram of the powder per 500ml of water. No where near 4%

I have to agree with Tahoe. With an avatar like that, who could go wrong???? Anyways, I have been experimenting with LC stuff for the past couple of weeks and Light Dried Malt Extract has outperformed anything I have tried so far. I did mine with a 1%(I forgot I used 200 ml of water with 2g of DME) solution by weight. I am sure that less would still have worked as I had a ton of myc within 12 hours. It was an LC to LC transfer. Next time I will cut this in half and see what happens. It doesn't take much with that DME. I hope this helps. The LC method works great for making TONS of myc from just a little bit. The bad part is, I want to make it by the gallon!!!

I just wish everyone would try it. It is truly the best that I have tried. Better than dextrose, honey, karo, turbino. I have not tried the formula that mm has in his tech but i trust that it works great. Potato water works awesome but it is not clear.

The barley malt that I have is "Barley Malt Sweetener". I got it at a health food store. I'm pretty sure it will work, as it looks the same as the malt I have used that was not labeled for food uses. What do you think?

Naw, it's in a NOW nutrition bag. This stuff is pretty light. I really don't know how much lighter you could get. Same stuff as this: http://cgi.ebay.com/NOW-Barley-Malt-Powder-24-oz_W0QQitemZ160202789124QQcmdZViewItem

you might think that you have a use for it by the gallons. Unless in the frigde it will become over grown and almost useless in a few weeks
