They make petri dishes you know. Why would you want your agar at the bottom of a well, when the mycelium isn't going to produce enough heat to get rid of the gasses?
By the way, there's been hundreds of agar in 1/2 pint posts, almost all reporting failures. The search engine will show you the way. RR

about 15-20 cc of agar per jar pc with the lid upside down so that it will not seal.
They work but suck because you can not see the mycelium from the top unless you open it.

because i have half pint jars and malt wheat agar and i read that it could be done, i have read of failures.i thought maybe if i posted this sum one with success would share. if your suggestion is to not fuck with the jars then it would have been noted...There is simply no place to get petri dishes in my area for less then 5 dollars a piece. i could by online and wait but that dosnt help when i want to clone a pin tomorrow.

Do what you got to do to get you instant gratification on, but take the time to order some petri dishes. These are the first ones I bought because I needed instant gratification and this is all I could afford. After I got these cheap petri's I got on ebay and just waited for the right deal. I found an amazing deal on some pyrex dishes. Anyway, enough ranting. Here is the sitehttp://scientificsonline.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_3081584
