ok so i tried to find 1/2 pint canning jars but all that any store had was 4oz ars. Would these be good for BRF? Should I keep them as cakes or should I crumble and case? Any advice?

1/4 pint doesn't work well. Grocery stores should have 1/2 pints. If the closest one doesn't, find a better store. 3 out of 4 grocery stores in my area have all sizes of mason jars. RR

there is no difference other than theyre smaller = less yield but faster colonization... ive done it before for my first grow ill try to find pics... i recommend crumbling and casing, even if you had 1/2 pints... it really makes a difference and will open you up to better casing procedures...

these are 1/4 pints: crappy yield, but not unsuccessful.

I mistakenly thought 4oz's were half pints when i first picked up jars..lol...
the cake will be small, all I can say is, 4oz is OK!
make sure when u fruit, you roll in verm, and try to stack 2 4oz cakes when fruiting, also, make sure you put verm over whatever the cake sits on, and think of it like a sandwich, put verm ontop of one 4oz, then stack another 4oz over that, then add more verm to the top of the second stacked 4oz'er...this is what I did.
the fruits were quite small, but still plentiful. i since upgraded to pint jars. only a couple weeks difference in colinization.
your 4oz'ers will incubate and colonize much quicker..depnding your substrate is mixed right.
just my 2cents.

I checked walmart and food stores and everywhere i was told to look.I finally had luck at Ace hardware, if you have one around i would say its a good bet they have pint and quart jars. If not try a local hardware store they would probably order them if you ask.

1/4 pints are great for LC, IMHO.

well I did something that I never thought I would do and went against RR's advice. I had checked Walmart, Lowes, Ace, and local grocery stores and most didn't have anything but 1 or 2 stores had 1/4 pints. I've been doing my research for a couple of weeks now and have everything that I need so I went against cultivating virtue and couldn't wait any longer. I decided that when these are colonized I'll crush either 2 or 4 of the jars (any suggestions?) and combine them and then late case them. I'm thinking about casing with a standard 50/50 mix. Any suggestions?
