Newb's Failure

Well, it is looking like i have failed my attempts to make a proper batch of jars for the second time.
I can't quite figure out what i have done wrong, but alas i continue on.
My first batch was RBF cakes with spore injection. Following PFtek pretty closely. Only one of those even took, and in that one, it was really weak. So i tossed em all.
I created a honey LC, mycelium grew, but it was thin and rested at the bottom. I was low in expectations.
I created a second batch, this time using Dark Rye flour, i heard good things. And a week later, i still have yet to see a single jar have any strong, if any mycelium growth.
No Contams, no growth.
I wonder if i just had bad spores. But i won't make that conclusion yet.

Is the flour you are using "organic"?? Some grains have an antifungal additive that stops all fungi ffrom growing in it. I had the same problem a few years ago when I first tried a PF tek. I just used brown rice, not organic brown rice. End result? No growth whatsoever. I ended up finding that jar about 8 months later when I was moving and guess what, still no growth.

i buy bags of whole grain BR and grind it myself... saves from any additives that my cause bad things.
are you using a PC? believe me it makes a difference between success and failure. as far as having no signs of growth in a week... well some strains take longer to germinate and colonize especially if your tempurature is on the low side of 70. then again you may have gotten bad spores. i hope you used a sponsor.
with the LC you need to shake it every day or so once growth starts to break up the mycelium and allow it to colonize deeper into the solution.

Both rye and RBF were bought and stamped "organic" I bought medium coarse vermiculite
Yes, i used a Pressure cooker, i PCed at 15 psi for 40 minutes just to be extra cautious.
I am using B+ strain, and after inoculation i incubate at 80 degrees f, The spores i used to make the first batch and the LC were from a sponsored supplier.
I never thought about shaking the LC everyday, i will start doing that, hopefully it will help. I store it in the fridge as it has been well over two weeks incubating.
These are the reasons i go to the spores, but i really don't have enough evidence to really support this theory, as they did grow in my LC.
Overall, i think i did everything in my power to give the best growing conditions, alas, i just cant seem to get it right, yet.
A friend of mine said he had some spores that were viable, he is doing i guess the poo and straw tek (forgive me please.), then casing them. his flushes have been going strong, it is a pretty nice set up.
I guess one possible thing to look at is my water content. I keep going over and over in my head. A learning experience this is.
I'm going to let this batch incubate for another week before i toss them. I was hoping to have at least 1 flush done by spring break, but It doesn't look like i am going to make that, i'll wait.
