Ever talked yourself out of a trip?

Some people may claim this is not possible (especially with acid) And i do not mean dud drugs. i mean ones from a reliable source etc.
Shrooms, had it happen once, i saw my friend (long time grower) divvy up the doses, 12 fresh ones each. everyone ballsed except me, i didn't particularly feel like trippin, but caved in too peer pressure. I think at T+2 hours i got a few visuals that lasted a couple of minutes each, but i just fought it and basically had a non-trip.
Acid - Tripped two hours, was in public, had enough of it, forced myself to act straight, then nothing at all for a couple of hours apart from a little buzzed, went home then it started again a little milder after a cigarette.
haven't been able to on anything else when it got too intense or i wasn't in/lost the mood.

ehh if I talk myself out of something bad or unpleasant I'm just more at ease, the trip is the same strength nonetheless

I never been able to really talk myself out of a terrible trip, or forcibly make it mellow. (the more i think about it the worse it gets)
nonetheless, those two times i've mentioned have been times i did not feel like particularly tripping at that time or in that setting.
In particular the shrooms, does anyone think my prior mindset of not wanting to trip affected it?

Yeah I'd say it probably affected it, I've done something not unlike that. I was tripping on acid in the summer, walking around with my buddies with a my djembe (someone brought an acoustic and some bongos and we were jamming) and I ran ino my aunt on one of the local trails, luckily I saw her coming ahead of time, so we walked the other way for a bit while I sorted myself out, but after a few minutes of really not wanting to be openly high, I literally sobered up for like 5-10 minutes while we talked, then we blazed and it came back in full.

Man, I can't talk myself out of a trip. Thats the start of a bad one for me.
I've had a few times where I've had rough, paranoid entries and I just gotta bite the stick and say "Man, there is nothing you can do about this. If you didn't want it you just fucked yourself for the next 6 hours."
That thought always cures my anxiety, surprisingly. Coming to terms that there is nothing that I can do so I might as well explore the jungle while I'm there.
