Your skepticism is warranted - They are not liberty caps!
I can't tell what they are from those pics.
The first pic looks like a Tubaria or Psathyrella or Mycena or something, kind of hard to see what it is without seeing the underside.
The second pic looks like a Psilocybe or Psathyrella. It could be P. cyanescens or P. cyanofriscosa or a million other mushrooms.
Did you see any blue bruising on the mushrooms after you picked them?
What was the spore print color?
Please post some pics of the underside the cap.

Well they arent at my house so I can't be sure. I know they didn't bruise and I believe the spore print is brownish...
I'll update when I know more.

my guess is that they are not active. Active do not grow is those fake red wood chips anyways. I wuldnt waste my time looking there

The pin looks sorta like Psilocybe, but then, Psathyrella gracilis and P. longipes pins look very "Psilocybe-like". Based on the mature mushroom next to it, I'm going to assume it is not Psilocybe, since the mature mushroom just doesn't look right at all.
GGO - Tahoe is fucking around. He is saying they don't grow in red chips, because they do grow in red chips, and he is trying to deter people from hunting there, haha. He has posted countless images of Psilocybe fruiting from the red chips.
