well ive had nothing but problems with my HP since I bought it and now im noticing that my laptop gets extremely hot, and blows out very very hot air where the fan is on the back.
is this pretty normal or is this a sign that the fan/s are about to die on me, i have about another 2-3 months of manufacturers warranty and i really dont want to send it in for a 3rd time.

Neither. Most likely you are infected with spyware and you computer is spending every last bit of energy sending out spam email. (Something is most likely eating CPU causing the system to stay loaded causing the fans to spin)

My new/used Alienware laptop runs hot as fuck.
But I was warned about it...

I wouldn't necessarily jump to worries about spyware or something sending out emails. Unless you've been downloading and installing a lot of shit lately.
Is it a powerful laptop? My friend's laptop is built to replace a desktop and if you set your beer near the fan it'll heat it up before you take another drink.

heh, my laptop slowly melted/burned the sticker from the manufacturer (dell) on it identifying my windows code and the service tag
In my never ending saga w/ dell, they settled a lawsuit over this and their power supply issues, where the ac plug needs to be repaired every couple of months, fuckers
could just be a bad design. You would think these companies would have their shit together... I bought my laptop as a prefab unit, only mods were extra ram, and the thing still melted my stickers, fried the graphics card, went through a two CPU's et cet.
they built the air intake on the bottom of the laptop. And where its situated it has about 1-3 mm clearance from the surface.... great, thanks dell

Thats how mine is, the AC power supply gets extremely hot and the fan is on the bottom with a tiny little vent so whenever the laptop is sitting flat it gets extremely hot, but when i tilt it to the side and allow it to vent more, it seems to cool down pretty fast.
I know I dont have any spyware problems, I just reccently recovered my PC and have been running AVG Free and Ad-aware about every day and it seems to be doing the job.
I might get back on HP and bitch at them some more tonight, see if I cant muster up a replacement. Especially since they have already worked on my computer 2 times since I bought the damn thing.

I just wonder what the premarket testing is... they don't discover a vent on the bottom of a laptop w/ essentially no clearance from the ground (none if its on a slightly soft surface like a bed or your jeans) is a bad idea?
My computer just fries itself. And they built it!
Who does their testing, some 80 year old playing solitare for a week on the thing? "well it took the grandma test in stride, must be cool to make 400,000 of these"

exactly, thats when mine overheats the most is when its sitting on my lap. when the tiny little vent is covered most, but it gets soo hot that I generally shut it down after a couple hours so that I dont end up burning up my fans and having to replace them.
my battery also gets extremely hot, I dont know what would cause this.

decharge and recharge, the battery is a chemical reaction that burns a metal to release electrons, so its gonna get warm
could be worse, dell's bullshit for instance... they recalled a bunch of batteries w/ the small almost forgetable flaw of spontaneous combustion while in the computer... you can imagine how well that worked out...
Quote:
Dell is recalling 4.1 million notebook computer batteries because they could erupt in flames, the company said Monday. It will be the largest safety recall in the history of the consumer electronics industry, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

I know very little about technology, thats definitely not my strong point in life. Im glad you could make some sense of it for me. I remember reading something about HP having tons of class action lawsuits against them, but dont remember what they were for, perhaps google will be my friend today and we'll see if the lawsuits had anything to do with overheating issues.
