Thinking vs. thoughts

The following is NOT mere semantic wordplay, but a vital distinction.
"I thought there were no cars coming when I turned and caused an accident," or perhaps a less dramatic, "I thought you were at home."
How many people use a phrase like this, yet there is very little thinking involved? A random or borrowed or habitual thought pops into someone's head and it is instantly considered true and acted upon as such with insufficient or no verification (even when it is available). The person then seems surprised when reality is different than their head picture and offtime becomes indignant, "Well, I THOUGHT the gun was empty!"
To me, this is the essence of sleep-walking or going about in an unaware and ego-locked state.

This is a redundant question

Yeah its like somethings happened so many times they expect it to be the same everytime, theyve become mentally conditioned and just switch off.
Then i suppose it isnt actually a thought its just an action and "i thought" is used to try and justify said action, when actually no thought is being thunk by the "thinker" who thought the thought which they didnt actually think at all
Almost everything starts from thought, i gues in these cases its just a previous thought replayed?

hey size isn't everything all these excuses for errors including the word "thought" are pleas for leniency - after all anyone can make such an error. (and anyone could win the lottery) most thinking is really superficial. mere rote echo etc.
the big thoughts are creative, new synthesis, fruits of intense awareness and dedication. they involve work, persistence, review, referencing... far from the norm
now what was the topic?

This doesn't leave any room for just being incorrect. It's entirely possible they were thinking, they were just wrong.

I think they have to be thinking for an action to happen, the brain has to tell the leg to push the gas pedal, and surely to do that it would have to think, but as the original thread maker said it does seem it could link to a sleep walking state and unaware, it makes oyu think about how many of our other supposed "thoughts" effect out day ot day lives.
Its like we're almost completely brainwashed and keep doing the same old egotisitic games 90% of the time, and as a collective conciousness that just isnt good!
I know when im driving i go into autopilot alot....

I know I am mostly on autopilot. So is everyone not awakened. In fact, both you and me are probably asleep to a degree right now.

Thinking to long in these types of situations can also cause this problem....
