i have some 1/2 pint BRF/verm cakes that are about 75% done colonizing but i dont think they will finish because they are waterlogged(after doing some research). im out of spores so i really want at least one shroom so i can make prints and start over. what can i do to salvage these cakes and hopefully get some fruits?

If you are really sure it's not gonna colonize you could do something along the lines of...
Cut all the colonized bits of the cake off and give em a rinse to clear all the uncolonized substrate off. Then put the colonized bits into a zip lock and crumble em up. Then you can either stick that into a tray and case it. Or try to spawn the crumbled cake to a pasteurized bulk sub.

didnt we just talk about this yesterday. If i would have known that you were still wondering what to do I would have make a tech out of this cake that i trashed just a few hours ago
You would want to remove any uncolonized substrate from the colonized areas

take your cakes in teh kitchen with you, wash your hands, open the jars, dump out the cakes, start picking out the uncolonized areas with a clean fork, rinse the new mini cakes off under running water.
You are at square 1 right now. if you fuck up anymore you are no worse off then you are now. if you dont fuck up then you are better off. Try one cake, give it a shot. See what happens. Once you figure what i am talking about than you will realize that it is a piece of cake, no pun.
If i were to do it with the cake aboe I would have broken each half into half again, quarters. Now i would use the fork to remove the uncolonized stuff. Once picked through I would rinse and put them in a zip lock and let them recover for a day or two. If needed you could stick them together by letting them touch.

Dude, you've been told what to do. Your choices are:
IF the cakes are whole and large enough to still be little 'pucks' you could fruit them as per usual in whatever FC setup you like.
OR if you only have pieces and not much of a 'puck' or 'cake' left, you could crumble (yes, in the bag) the colonized pieces of the cake and make a little casing.
AS far as casing goes, you could use just the crumbled pieces with whatever casing layer you prefer and fruit. (none, verm, 50/50, etc.) Or you could mix your crumbled pieces in with a bulk substrate of your choice (coir, straw, manure, worm castings, coffee grounds, compost, etc, or any combination thereof)and let it completely colonize before adding your casing layer and fruiting in your FC.
This shit ain't rocket science. Good luck.

In your case, remove the uncolonized part as mentioned above. Dunk in water for a few hours then place in a FC... See what you get.

I have a similar situation. I had one cake out of about 12 that turned up perfect (ouch). Not surprisingly this was the last one I mixed and was perfectly dry. I took one, and excised the uncolonized portions and placed it into the fruiting chamber with the good cake.
As an experiment I crumbled the rest, taking off the uncolonized portions, into a coco coir/coffee substrate in pans. They look to be colonizing nicely so far.
I wish I had done a little more reading before inoculating my over wet jars, but what can you do.

I just crumbled my only jar with slight sign of contaim in a house plant. Actually, no plant, just dirt, BRF, verm., mycelium crumble, and more dirt... I'll see what happens... It's just a test.

No worries man, you will get it right at some point, but rarely are noobs successful right off.
Look into rye, once you master it, getting the water content of a rye jar is easy as pie.
Spawn the rye to coir, then case 50/50+
All the teks are already on this site, trust me, you can find it all searching and reading FAQ.
Search for posts by RogerRabbit, Anno, BlueHelix, Magash, Monstermitch, Doc34, Hippie Chick, Hyphae, Scatmanrav, Wronguy, I am sure I am missing some, but that's a good start.
Search more, ask less questions, it's more efficient.
