A friend of mine has horses and his parents always put the dung in a big pile to the side of the stables, we went back there a couple of nights ago and there were mushrooms growing all over the pile. 100's of them. We weren't sure if they were psilo's so we didn't eat them.... Well what i'm wondering is maybe one of you ppl can help me Id them. They had 2-4 long thin stems, the caps were thin, small and they stained a dark puprlish blackish color. It might be possible for me to go up there one night get 1 and scan a picture but I was hoping it could be id. w/o a pic.

That sounds like typical Coprinus behavior, growing by the hundreds from horse manure, staining purple/black. Do the caps melt off after a while leaving just a little stub on the end of the stem? They're not active.
