AFAIK light does disturb sclerotia formation. Think about it, those things usually form underground in the nature...
Anyway, if you're not getting sclerotia, why not just fruit it?

Oh, that article...
"Great read"? Amusing, at least. That particular article has so much misinformation and outright bullshit... Indeed, it claims APE was created by exposing PE to UV radiation (!!!) I'd like to know what Workman thinks about that....

I can understand the light effecting the WBS that gets the light but shouldn't something have been forming in the center?
I'll move my other two jars of the rye grass seed to a dark closet and see how it goes in a few months.

I'd say just fruit it. You probably just have a set of genetics that would prefer fruiting to sclerotia-forming...

PE artical
I cant wait for my try at PEs.
Im inoculating 6 rye quarts 2morrow night.
Decent article, quite a bit of the info reflects what I have been able to learn about the history of the strain. The article was obviously written by someone with little to no cultivation experience. There is some mis-information about how the APE was developed.

You have the right idea, but there are indeed better ways.
Look into agar, my friend. Agar turns one spore syringe into an amazing and almost unlimited tool.

well i was reading this thread post for post trying to make a decision on which strain im going to select for my first cultivation and this thread helped but, RogerRabbit, your post cleared things up for me

I'll bet if we just deleted the strain thread completely along with any strain question that gets asked, with a set answer such as, "ask your preferred vendor", we'd see all these stupid strains disappear, and the vendors would start selling 'cubensis spores', putting all this nonesense to rest.
The disinformation has already started. There are no strains that require casing. There are no strains that don't perform on cakes. There are no strains that are more rhizomorphic. There are no strains that are always more potent. There are no strains that are more resistant to contamination. There are no strains that are not sensitive to CO2. There are no strains that require less light. There are no strains that grow better invitro, etc. etc.
By 'strain' I mean print of spore syringe, not somebody's isolate, which is a whole different animal. RR

That said, there are many strains that are, at the very least, VISUALLY unique (and many more have interesting histories).
You know how I find my strain info? The SEARCH feature... but: RR's decision to confine ALL strain discussion to one thread has GREATLY limited the amount of new strain info we get here at The Shroomery (the biggest mushroom website in the world). Yeah, it is an annoyance to moderate all this strain stuff... but... this is overkill. Where else should people go to discuss such things? OTD?

It's not the strain's fault. Maybe your conditions are not ideal, maybe you used too many spores, maybe the moon is in the wrong phase... or maybe you had bad luck at the genetic lottery of multispore...
