I have a syringe of allen and just never tried to grow it out. curious to see how it fairs over others myself. heard good things like very potent for its size and very quick colonization times but never seen any one grow it.

LEGITIMATE STRAIN LIST REQUEST
i see so many strains that look identical and so many TC'c and veterans of the shroomery saying that a lot of the names are bullshit and advertising gimmicks which i believe to be true. i would like to collect spores actual different strains but i don't want to purchase/trade and grow out 30 times to end up with 28 of the same thing with a Louis Vatton label.
would anyone who knows their shit be willing to list what they believe to be TRUE strains?

Basement Boy said: My question is on Jalisco. I don't see many people growing these. I have done some reading but a great deal of it is older posts. My first of a few questions
1) Can this only be grown on grass seed or can it also be done on WBS or other grains.
2) Does it have to form the "stones" before you can fruit it?
3) I read in one post something about 2 months before fruiting it is this true?
4) Can you treat this like other mushrooms and once you have jar colonized can you do a G2G transfer?
I am sure there are other questions but these are the ones at the forefront of my mind right now.
1. It can grow on any grain (it grows just like Mexicana A strain, so any teks for one will work for the other). Rye grain or grass seed are the most popular grains to use with Jalisco.
2. No it does not... but stones are also fruit (bulky and edible fruit), and they DO seem to aid in the production of shrooms, so if you wait for stones you will likely have more shrooms. Hell, you can cover a stone in dirt and water it, and you'll get shrooms... so it does seem like stones, at the very least, aid in shroom production.
3. At least 2 months. Sclerotia rewards the patient. Some say the older stones are more potent. If you don't NEED to harvest, keep 'em in the jar. They will keep fresh in the jar for at least 6-9 months... and they'll still fruit when you give 'em a casing. If I wanted jalisco shrooms, I'd pick a few medium stones from each jar and make a small casing in a sour cream or cream cheese container. Let the stones get a little dry... then water the casing well, and keep it moist. The stones will think it is a drought at first, then they will think the rain has come. This change from dry to wet will encourage shroom production. Sclerotia is made to withstand dry periods... but once it starts to rain, it is ready to grow. After a flush, let the casing dry out again for a couple of days, then start the rains again. Casings made from stones and coir or verm or peat or whatever can last for months. Casings made from stones and substrate will put out more shrooms with each flush, but they are more prone to contamination.
4. Yes.
Have fun and good luck. I am a fan of sclerotia producers.
Had another question pop up. I have my jar of WBS colonizing and it's getting close to what I would say is between 25 to 40% done. should I give the jar a shake? I plan to do a G2G with this jar and not necessarily go for stones from this one. When I do the G2G and start my new jars if I want to get the stones should I not shake the jars? I am thinking that it may somehow effect the sclerotia production. Is this correct?

Shake if you want. It speeds things up... but the myc will never look as pretty again.
I tend to go without shaking... just because the myc is so pretty.

I have marked the strains I think are unique with an * (asterisk) in my journal.

do you prefer sclerotia? does it have a more tasty or less tasty texture (compared to mushrooms)? what strains produce sclerotia? Has anyone ever passed these on to friends who didn't say "WTF IS THIS!?" (and is this against the rules to ask?)

Well, strains with names like "reality blender" and "illusion beaver" or "super universal balltripper" are the fake ones. They're quite easy to recognize.

i have been doing this thing for a year and a half now and have tried much of what ralph has to offer. i came across some strains i will call "squishy" or "marshmellow" like. these were the lipa ya's and the red spore for me they were my faviorites. i really like the texture, they were not like some of the others that seemed big but were hollow inside. these were more solid (ish). as for the mantra of a cube is a cube, i think that some of them have slight differences in overall charecter, like pot does. no one would ever say an indica is an indica- that would be ridiculous.
