I know, fuck me. I thought I learned my lesson, but then did the same thing and lost 3 of 8 grain jars.

Sometimes old habits die hard.

Yeah, this is only my third grow but I don't consider myself a n00b. I learn fast and have made very few mistakes. This is the only one I've repeated.

Good night shroomery...

Hello!

Time to pop my shroomery virgin..
I got a spore syringe of the strain "Mattian Romero" from smartbotanics.nl in the mail today. Does anyone have any experience growing these?

I have not been able to find any info about it other than whats said on the site I ordered from, and that wasn't alot.

Cheers!

Matias Ramero has been on the market for a LONG time... and it is thought that ALL the PF strains originally came from MR stock.

Here's the info MI've uncovered:

Quote:

Cervantes said:
From www.ralphstersspores.com

This is a nice rizomorphic strain. Lots of pins and lots of aborts. But with proper moisture content and humidity many (but not all) aborts can be avoided. This strain loves water but don't go drowning it! Fat meaty stems particularly at the base of the stem and great yields. This strain is named after the Mexican village Matias Romero where it was collected. It produces, some smaller, but fat stemmed mushrooms that usually form in clusters. This strain profits a lot from cold-shocking. The veil for the most part breaks cleanly away from the cap and caps leave heavy spore deposits.

This is the original strain sold by PF for years. It was called Amazon when first obtained from Bob Harris and Homestead Books in Seattle, possibly because of it's size. PF renamed it 'Matias Romero' after the Mexican village where it may have originated. It has also been dubbed the 'PF Classic'

From mjshroomer

MR (Matias Romero) is a strain developed by the late Dr. Steven Pollock which he brought sporeprints back from the MExican Village of Matias Romero somewhere in Zihuatenao (Spell check here on that village name. pronounced as Zee-Wa-Ten-Nay-Oh).

It was Doctor Steven Pollock who brought us the matia Romero strain for the village of Matias romero in Mexico.

and...

it and Pollock grew it and sold sclerotia as Cosmic Comote throught his ads in High Times and other drug subculture magazines.

That s also like his Matia Romero, from a province or vilage near Zehuatenejo, Mexico. The matia romero shrooms today are not the same as the original Pollock collection and the Hawaiian Cubensis are not form Hawaii naturally they are either Palenque or colombian strains developed buy th te Mckenna Brothers and grown indoors in Hawaii.

my FOAF got the A Strain as the strain of the month from ralph.
his A strain jars are colonizing much faster than the rest of his jars
is the A strain known for this?
If anyone has had any experience with it how is the fruiting?

Has anybody found PE to be extremely aggressive?

I've been working with it for quite some time now and its never failed to give me wonderful results.
The mycelium often overlay's in spots, but still gives excellent pinsets.

Its actually the most aggressive strain i've ever worked with...
it just makes me wanna say "wow"

pics soon.

Probably.

However, PF Classic was grown out over years for its ability to grow on PF cakes... by now, I suspect PF Classic and MR are slightly different... even if they came from the same source... although they DO resemble one another... since both, "Strains" grow short and fat.

Also, there is speculation that MR isn't even the original MR anymore... spores get mislabled ALL THE TIME... so, as is the case with MANY cubes... who the fuck knows?

On top of THAT... Workman theorizes, ALL the PF strains are infected with a virus which causes SLOW deteriation of the strain... and increases the odds of mutation (IE PF Redspore and PF Albino).

MR has no such problems...

So again... who the fuck knows?

But it DOES make a great story.

Good luck.

Be sure to save half your spores... just in case.

You may want to let your vendor know of the misspelling. otherwise they'll keep making the same mistake.

Perhaps Ralph has a good isolate of A strain... I don't know...

Hopefully, others will chime in about this.

GREAT!

Heh, my experiences with PE have been slower than average with fuzzy myc...

But A LOT OF VENDORS are working to perfect the PE strain... and I suspect... like many other strains... PE is getting better as it is isolated further...

Still, PE is no slouch... for a novelty strain, it produces a lot of fungus.

Congrats!

Oh Yes!

Currently I have a small straw/dung tub going on, hat developed the thickest and whitest mycelium I've ever seen. Very nice

As well currently I have a few BRF Jars of PE colonizing and they are completely done by now (just have to sit in the incubator for a few more days to settle). I have knocked them up on the 16th. Amazing colonization speed. However the mycelium is -as Cervantes also said- rather fuzzy. No real rhizomorphs.

wow really fuzzy PE damn... all of mine are very ropey and Rizo... sometimes the rizos seem to reach out so far that it actually misses colonizing parts of the cakes... may just be my isolate tho... i dont really know but i started PE in such an unorthodox way its not even funny... I got a colonized jar from a FOAF thru a nice lil trade and i let the jar sit for a week before dunk and roll, when i birthed it out and d&r'd it i pulled a single rizomorph from the glass of the jar and placed it on agar to grow and it did with no sectoring... luck i guess, anyways about a month or so later after nothing grew from the first cake, and the new ones were fruited out on their second flush I finally threw it away... from my PE now i also have an albino clone... still waiting to see if they come out albino or not but should be very soon

Ditto.

Thickest and whitest mycelium i've seen from MS, it is rather fuzzy but the mycelium
always tears up the sides of my monotubs with rhizomorphic fanning like growth.
I've got 3 more casings ready for harvest tomarrow afternoon.

Not a joke people, this is one meaty mushroom.

Overlay from such aggressive growth as faht stated is the only issue going on as of right now.
Rumor has it doesnt give good pinsets without isolation, but as far as im concerned out of 8 test trays im more than happy with the results from this strain every time.

Sorry about the condensation. I'll post pics of the 3 clear tubs tomarrow at harvest, too tired now. Peace.

I've grown the "A" strain many times...

it does colonize fast...

it can produce large fruits...

it does fruit well in hot temps...
I've done some summer grows with the "A" strain and the temps have been in the 90's and it still did really well.

it is a great strain for doing outdoor grows.

Read this thread from the begining. You should find all the answers you need. Also click on the BOOK ICON by my name. There is a LOT of strain info in there.

Finally, click on the sponsor link right under the advertisemant banner at the top of the page.

ALL these vendors are LEGIT you'll get what they promise you.

Welcome to The Shroomery.

p.s. If this is your first try, SAVE SOME SPORES, in case you fuck something up.
