For me all wood lovers taste like REALLY old and rotting walnut. Even worse than cubes or Pans, that more taste like old pumpkin seeds for me...

Really, I don't know if I've ever ate a woodland mushie before. Old walnut taste huh?

When I'm done with college, I'll have me a nice outdoor azure bed, I promise.

Yeah, for me they taste even more disgusting than other mushrooms, because their taste is SO strong.

For some reason, they taste worse every time I eat them. Dunno why, but it's fact for me

The woodland ones taste bad, or the cubies?

Yes, but whenever this discussion strays from cube talk for TOO LONG, a moderator will come in here and ask us to get back to cubes.

Remember, n00bs use this thread for info... and if it gets filled with too much discussion about wood lovers (or my favorite, Mexicanae), the newbs may get confused.

Also,  the longer this discussion becomes, the harder it is to ask people to go back and read the whole thread. Requiring all of us to answer the same questions over and over.

Sure, no problem.

I think most n00bs won't read this anyways. They should just read your journal.

Better organized, better info.

there should be a mod option for a single thread where strains and info are alphabetically ordered.

How nice would THAT be? The problem with my journal is keeping it in order... when new posts bump a thread to the top. I figure once it is complete, we can do something to fix the organization problem.

Good idea. In fact, why don't we make a new forum for the discussion of all speices and sticky the best info at the top. There could be a subforum for strain dicussion.

Anyone else like this idea, or would like to add to it.

We could be onto something here!

I thought about all this before I started the journal. The reason I hesitated to ask is we'd need to ask an Admin to do a LOT of work setting this up for us... you are not talking about a regular journal/forum format. It would require extra programing.

Without extra programming...

Either people could add their own threads... which would cause problems (like multiple threads about the SAME strain and flame wars)...

Or, all the threads would have to be locked to keep things organized (and we don't yet have enough info on each strain to ask an Admin to  do THAT... either the Staff would have to compile all this info themselves... or the forum would be pretty empty). Also, they'd probably need a mod or two.

We need to do more work before asking for such a thing. We can't expect the Staff to do it for us. They have plenty to work on already.

Admins don't want to spend a LOT of time working on a NEW FORMAT for forums... unless they already have the info they need. It is a LOT of work just so a few n00bs can more easily learn how a cube is a cube.

And I don't want a bunch of people who only have experience with ONE, "Strain"... or no experience at all... coming in and telling ME what amazingly potent, "Strain" is best for bulk.

I plan on asking for something like you suggest, but I think it has a better chance of working, if we can first, present the Staff with a BUNCH of new and factual strain descriptions. We must do our work, before asking the Admins to do theirs.

Check Mycotopia's Strain Subforum. You'll see, while it does many things right... it has its own set of problems... and contains a great deal of mis-information. We can do better... but it will take time. We're getting there... but I think you'll get further with The Staff if you already have something to present them.

For now, use my journal. It is far from perfect... but it is good enough to use while we wait for something better. It is good enough to COMPILE the info we need. Once compiled, I promise I'll do everything in my power to have the info presented in a better format.

How can you help?

Find info about the origins, or distinguishing physical traits of any cube, "Strain" and post it in the appropriate thread in my journal. And whenever possible, post a link to your source. If strains are missing from my journal, notify me and they will be added.

We ARE actually making progress (the most progress made on this subject here at The Shroomery in at least 5 years)... it is just taking a good deal of time.

I haven't even read it yet, I was so taken aback. Way to cover all your bases.

Okay, just read the rest. So where can we find information to post? Just looking through old and archived posts? Does Mycotopia have good info to find?

If you can't tell I'm on board all the way

Awesome!

I have mostly been using The Shroomery search feature (and I start with the first posts made about that particular, "Strain") I pay extra attention to posts by veteran members, who I have learned to trust over the years... and whenever needed, I talk whoever actually found and/or introduced these strains (PM's work!).

A few people, like Roadkill, Workman and TheChosenOne (Falbino) have posted their own info about the strains they helped introduce... or strains they know and love.

Mycotopia has good info too... but be sure to give them credit for anything you find. If it is NOT this site... Give credit where credit is due. Even if it IS from this site... provide a link whenever possible.

You'd be surprised how many of these strains were introduced here, at The Shroomery... with posts by the people who actually found/created them!

Strains like PE6, APE, PEU, Redboy, Falbino all have their histories posted here (or at other online mushroom websites)... by the people who created them. And if I have any follow-up questions I send out a few PM's. Most of these folks are more than willing to help The Shroomery preserve the integrity of their, "Strains". They are very happy to add supplemental details.

Once I have enough info, I write a new description of the strain... and post it in this thread. I then ask if anybody disagrees with what I have posted... or if they have anything else to add.

The more I research... the more I realize 90% of cubes are just cubes... and without an interesting story to connect to them, they have no chance of being classified, "Unique". The history of these, "Strains" is often their most interesting trait.

Please help in any way you see fit.

I don't have enough free time to go any faster than I am currently going... I am grateful for any extra help (flushme's helped a LOT).

Anyway, for the cube strain journal... just click on the book icon above my avatar.
