Do I really need to soak to get the right water content in rye grain. My methods are very sterile any one else here skip this step.

i always soak my rye for 24 hrs. maybe just routine, but it def. works for me.

If you don't soak, be sure to wash the berries off real good. If you don't, they will stick to each other and clump.

Stamets method from TMC over 20 years ago didn't involve soaking. Over the years, we've developed better techniques to use. The other way still works, but there's far better ways to do it. Soaking/simmering as I've described on these pages will achieve faster colonization due to proper moisture content and other factors that have already been discussed so many times as to not bear repeating. It's all there if you search using your thread title as the search term.
