How tough is your cactus?
    #7954026 - 01/30/08 12:11 AM (16 years, 3 days ago)

The thread about stressed san pedros made me think of this cutting.

It's been sitting in the same spot for 13 months. That's not a typo, thirteen months it's been there since I cut it from the parent plant.

It gets full sun in the afternoons and is under cover so no rain ever falls on it. I'm not sure weather to plant it or just see how long it will survive.

i would guess that it's pretty good to use now. maybe root part of it and use the rest?

I don't want to eat it. I have dozens of cacti and no reason to eat this thing. It's just a novelty.

lol i have cuttings like that also, they sit and sit because i have way to many and just don't feel like planting them.

i had 3-4 that was a year plus ,one never changed (traded it) one got really soft and i ended up throwing it in a pot sideways and it rooted and pupped, the other one grew a nice pup .

on the one that grew a nice pup it kept growing until the pup was about the same size as the cutting and the cutting was so soft that i was afraid of rot and cut it off. it was like the old scared log of a cutting just replaced it self with a very nice blemish free cutting of the same size.

cacti are quite amazing if you really think about it , no roots and it still grows, breaks and falls and it will root itself, sits on shelfs for 1-2 years and can still be planted and grow no problem.

very cool

also the fact that they go dormant is cool to, i got a bunch of lophophora crests + variegated specimens in last sep-Oct and they were very healthy. well i had a bunch of stuff going on and have left them on a table , not potted and on there side (has roots).

yesterday i went in there to clean up my desk and there they are sitting still very hydrated/healthy and patiently waiting to be planted and put under the hps .

WOOT cacti!!

I might give this one a wash, put it in a long shallow pot and put it in the growroom too and torture it some more.
