The most cliche movie moments
    #7953554 - 01/29/08 10:47 PM (16 years, 3 days ago)

1)The poison/killer drink that just touches the lips of a character before the phone rings, avoiding certain death

2)Helpless woman running upstairs to avoid mass murderer.

3)The mirror image of something terrifying.

Help me out!

A guy and a girl who hate each other or have some other significant differences in personality, but gradually fall in love anyway.

The "obligatory villain" in nearly every film, regardless of content or theme.

Turning around and having something RIGHT IN THEIR FACE that wasn't there two seconds ago.

Gunshots missing 99% of the time, and only causing injury or death when a plot device is needed.

All I can bother to think of. Here's a site that specializes in these kinds of cliché, also known as "tropes"

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Film

Browse around for awhile. It's interesting to read.

6. Camio appearances of MeatLoaf

7. Arnold Schwarzenegger yelling "GET TO THE CHOPPER'"

Someone sits down at a table/bar, and orders a full entree, then gets up later without even picking up the fork and says: "I need to get going", leaving all the food still on the plate.
I hate that so much, yet you see it again and again.

Car never starts when they need to get away in a hurry. Then it starts just in time (or sometimes not, and they DIE)
Everytime there's a thunder and lightning storm, someone will die.
Someone decides to investigate the dark basement/cave/wherever that strange noise was coming from.

When it cuts to a scene and whatever is going on is totally out of place. After you're confused you'll hear CUT! and then you realize they were filming a movie inside the movie.

A chase sequence in a foreign, usually middle eastern, country will inevitably result in a fruit cart being knocked over.

If a character starts coughing they're going to die of a terminal illness.

Air ducts, for action heroes to climb through, are always spotlessly clean - in reality they never are.

-All bombs have a bright red LED timer, and there are two different colors of wires and one of them will defuse the bomb and one will make it go off and the hero recites some nursery rhyme to pick which one and closes his eyes and snips one of them and it's always the correct one.

The one where a main character comes into contact with other people throughout the movie only to discover that they are facets of his own personality at the end for any number of reasons.

If the trailer mentions the bands featured on the soundtrack - the soundtrack music will suck donkey balls - as will the film.

Similar to ones posted earlier but:

- When bomb builders use certain color wires that are universal. I would like to see a bomb with all black wires.

- When someone is about to get killed by someone with a gun, you hear the gunshot, and it turns out to be someone killing the person with the gun.

Yeah, what's up with that color-coded bullshit?
A real bomb would use like ribbon cable, with nothing to distinguish one lead from the other.

Shit, they may as well leave a note on the bomb saying: "To disarm, cut the red one." :nonono:

When someone is shot, they fly back like they were pushed over, instead of drop like in a real gunfight.

Not even a .50 BMG (to the left)

will make you fly back. The mythbusters tested this.

Oh and when a car falls from even a slight cliff, or is on fire after an accident, it explodes as if it had a stick of dynamite taped to the gas tank.

mythbusters also tested out a few things that involve cars in movies...

I think they ran a series of tests on one poor, poor little car. (well, I say little, it was an old granny mobile they had to have found in a junk yard. Or borrow from Don vito)

Here's a cliche- they always use a car door as a shield. mythbusters showed most bullets going straight through the door

then the exploding car... they did a ton of things to try to get the car to explode... rolling it, shooting the gas tank, dropping it from a crane. all while it was running with gas... nothing. I think they finally had to load it with explosives to get it to blow up.

reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter was teaching Meg how to drive and she raced a horse carriage around a winding mountain road (another cliche! winding mountain road car chases!) and it fell off the cliff and the carriage exploded then the horse explodes. LOL

Why can't the producer or director just find a dead number or buy a number?  It adds so much to the realism.

I always liked on Seinfeld when Jerry would just happen to know every phone number.  His TV went out, so he picked up the phone and called the cable service.

I love it when the dumb-asses go to the killer's house.
Like in "Wrong Turn".
They know who/what lives there, but still yet they go in.
It's funny.

You can mutilate my friends and me some other time, ok?"

Or they do get a phone number, and its prefix is 555.

there's interesting history to that one

For tangential evidence I submit the Wilhelm Scream. Once you learn this one you will forever hear it in practically everything.

And, last but but possibly first is the classic "Ching" sound made by any and every drawn blade. Hell, half-the time you'll get a "ching" simply upon sight of a blade.

I didn't know that scream had a name.
