Those racist comments on the newsletter that beared his name back in the day came back to haunt him and end his campaign.

Fuck Fox News... err yeah... fuck them... I have other reasons for hating them... like the fact that spin is their way of life... but that's another story for another time.
Though, Fox news or otherwise, it doesn't shock me that he's out... wish it weren't so, but them's the breaks. I'm moving to the Netherlands!

Dude... vote. I can't abide it when people don't vote. Why forfeit a power you have. That's like a huge fucking epidemic here right now... people not voting. I'm no happier about him being out... but at least fight for and represent something.

Its harder for Americans to get into the Netherlands than you think, then after you get in (if you do), you have to adjust to a new culture, try to find a job, pretty much start life over. And they pick Dutch applicants for jobs over American immigrants in a flash, they have no obligation or responsibility to give you a job even if you have more qualifications or skills than a Dutch applicant. From what I hear, it's nothing like here.

If you don't vote, no matter what your beliefs, you are part of the problem.
Big media is a huge problem, and its influence can be felt everywhere. I despise it as much as the next guy... but facing the facts... Paul never really had a shot.
I think the sheer radicality of his beliefs would have scared a lot of people that don't want change if they'd beenallowed to spread... That's just my thought though.

That's a bit strong. For one thing, why vote on a candidate who doesn't support your ideals? If you have to choose between crap and shit, what purpose is there in voting? Either way you get shit on you.
And besides that, I'm not wholly convinced our votes make much difference at all. Maybe I am a bit paranoid, but honestly, I don't trust the US Government, and I think there's plenty of reason for that. I have a hard time believing that they aren't going to put in office exactly who they want. Or at least let us choose from a group of candidates they hand-picked.
I'm not saying I definitely won't vote, but saying "If you don't vote, you're part of the problem" sounds to me like bullshit.

Not voting implies apathy. That's my problem with it.
I'm not saying that the people who elect not to vote are all apathetic, but we were given the right for a reason.
Shit, blow your vote on an independent if you must. But don't sacrifice the one right you have that can turn the tide. I'm not saying it will or that it's even likely... but at least you're sticking up for something.
Having some value system is better than sitting neutral in my book.

He didn't have a chance in hell anyway so he just wasted millions for nothing, just like several others. Edwards should drop out too. This race seems to be betweeen Hill and Obomb, Romney, McCain & Huckabee...no one else can come close on the number of votes. The count when I went to bed last night in FL was about 200k total more republican votes to that is massive when all directed towards one candidate unlike the primary.

I've never heard a good reason for not voting. Somebody on that ballot is going to end up in the oval office. "None of the above" will never be president. Those who claim all candidates are equally bad are fooling themselves.
The worst is when people think they're making some kind of statement by not voting. Guess what? Nobody hears your statement, because you aren't saying anything at all. Everyone has the right to not vote, just don't pretend that by doing so you are serving anyone but yourself.

In my mailbox from this morning from the Ron Paul 2008 campaign:
Quote:
January 30, 2008
Every movement in history has faced some time of testing, some experience that either forges it into something strong and unified, or forces it to fade away into the history books as another failed experiment.
Dr. Paul has written to you that we are heading straight for Super Tuesday. Our opponents are free to beat up on each other and wear themselves down while we gather our supporters and prepare to storm the convention with delegates.
Last night, over 60,000 people stood up and asked for an end to the runaway violation of our liberties. But contrary to the impression you may be getting from the mainstream media, no national delegates have yet been won in Florida. Those delegates will only be awarded between February 6 and April 30 at delegate selection caucuses, and many of those delegates will be supporters of Dr. Paul.
Ron Paul is the only candidate not to give up on any state in the Republican race, and just as we competed strongly in overlooked states like Nevada and Louisiana, so too will we compete in Maine, Minnesota, and other states that the so-called "top-tier" candidates are content to ignore.
Now, as the focus shifts to Super Tuesday, Rudy's campaign is crushed, Huckabee is losing momentum by the day, and McCain and Romney are fighting over who is the most liberal.
We've been here before. In 1776, despite a courageous effort at holding onto the city, George Washington ceded New York and quickly retreated to New Jersey.
1777 brought the British recapture of Fort Ticonderoga, as well as American defeats at Brandywine and Germantown.
And then, during the winter of 1777-1778, Washington and his army faced perhaps their most humiliating moment, forced to endure a harsh Pennsylvania winter with limited supplies at Valley Forge.
The American revolutionaries dealt with their defeats, focused on their goals, and emerged from Valley Forge as a force that would defeat the most powerful nation on earth.
Our momentum is building. Each one of us, from Dr. Paul himself down to the grassroots supporter who donates the last $5 he or she can give, is focused on the goal.
Early in the struggle for American independence, George Washington wrote: "Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages." Even then, Washington realized that a fierce struggle for self-government can only be won with a spirit of determination equal to the challenge.
Today, in the midst of our new revolution, let's consider Washington's words once again. The task before us is enormous. The foes of liberty are deeply entrenched, and they will not relinquish their power without a struggle.
But fighting in our favor is the unconquerable human spirit, the innate desire to be free. We must embrace this inner strength, dig in our heels, and persevere, just as Washington and his rag-tag colonials, the first American grassroots patriots, did before us. And if we must pass through a Valley Forge or two along the way to victory, let those times of testing temper the steel of our determination.
If Ron Paul is to continue his fight for liberty to the Republican Convention, we need your help in two critical ways:
1. Become a precinct leader today: It's easy, but more importantly, it's vital to Ron Paul's success: https://voters.ronpaul2008.com.
2. Donate: Just as the Continental Congress supplied General Washington's troops in the field, we too must raise as much money as we can to equip our grassroots supporters.
Help us win this revolution and usher in a new era of freedom, peace, and prosperity. Donate today: https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate.

There's nothing saying he's quitting. And why all the Ron Paul hate? "He's toast" "That's what I thought" "Haha, I don't understand politics or social change at all, but I'm going to agree with the person above me because they probably do."
To quote Dr. Paul: "Then, after the debate, Rudy Giuliani walked up to me and said, "Oooh, you sure have a LOT of supporters." It's only the beginning, I told him."

I don't know if those comments stem from hate... I figure it's just a realistic appraisal of his chances, given his 'radical' platform.

Yes, it's so "radical" for a Republican to be a true conservative and not a neo-con. It's incredibly radical for someone to want to constitution to be upheld rather than whiping their ass with it and our liberties.
People have forgotten, but Conservative means limited government involved in your day to day life, rather than the bullshit Neo-Cons we have today where it seems like they can't be involved enough. States' rights over a big Federal Government

Notice the sarcastic quotes in my post. He is radical in that he isn't compromising his platform in order to appeal to as many people as possible. Abolish the drug war? Think of the children!

I have to agree. Most of the voters have strong religious background, and the last thing they want is for our dangerous drugs to get into the hands of their kids. They don't even consider the possibility of restricting drugs for reponsible adults. They immediately equate recreational drugs with kids abusing them. Hence, anyone who poses a threat to that burnt-in way of thinking won't be considered for election.

Even if he doesn't win, its great that he will probably be left with McCain and Romney, and forced to be given media coverage because at least we are slowly getting the ideas of real change into America. I think America is so far off base right now that we have to ease our way into change/making any sense. At least he is opening some minds up and laying down some great points.

For those asking who is Ron Paul, please look at http://www.ronpaul2008.com
He is an amazing candidate with strong constitutionalist ideals! Really, he is hope for America.
And he never denounced the OVERALL war on drugs, just the federal war on drugs. States and local governments would be free to regulate as they saw fit. This would, however, be a MAJOR step in ending the drug war.

California has legalized MJ for medical use. If they lift the federal ban, then California would legalize MJ completely.

he never had a chance anyways. seriously, it's time to wake up people.
ron paul supporters are sort delusional if you ask me. first of all, to think he's going to actually win the republican nomination and second, even if he did by some freakish miracle win the presidency, it's not like he gets to wave a ron paul magic wand and completely change the entire government's structure to his libertarian fantasy land. there's this group of people called congress who he has to persuade, and most of them are liberal at the moment, so that would be pretty unlikely. i mean, if bush can't even get his tax cuts made permanent then the idea that ron paul is going to be able to get any of his ideas embraced by congress is one of the most hopeless and far fetched fantasies you could possibly imagine in the US's current political landscape.
i'm glad he's quiting, because now we can concentrate on candidates who actually come from the same planet as us. ron paul is finished, hurray!!

support the easter bunny if you want to. he won't get elected though.
man, i've been where you're at before, in 2000 when i voted for the first time. i was the same way. it feels good to vote your conscience and stick to your guns, but it's really a sort of silly way of doing things. if you really want to stand fir something you believe in i'd suggest you try and figure out a way to wake people up to unconventional candidates like paul, or other third party candidates, so that in future elections people like him might have a chance. that's what the country really needs. being stubborn and delusional, and pretending someones going to win when it's mathematically impossible isn't really doing much for anyone though. unless of course it's the thought that counts.

I just don't see how voting for a guy that parallels my ideals is being 'stubborn and delusional.'
So far in this thread I've been told that A. I have to vote, or I'm part of the problem, and B. I shouldn't vote for the underdog, the only candidate I can actually agree with, because it "insults my intelligence."
So by those standards, I should vote for the person everyone else is voting for. Otherwise I'm an idiotic, delusional no good American.

If someone here doesn't give an immigrant a shot with the same qualifications and skills as a native applying for a job, you are looked down upon. The immigrant can contact media and make you look like a bigot ass on television, and they will blow it out of proportion. This goes for racial minorities that are natives of the US as well.
Elsewhere around the world the situation is not so from what I've been told. Its just the social way the good old US of A has come to be. Equal opportunity for all, civil rights, blah blah. I'm sure in the Netherlands they have the right to not give a rats ass about an individual having to start a new life in a new country, having to adjust and find employment, even if you have all the schooling and the degree, etc. Difference is they probably don't sick the media parade on you and there isn't that social pressure present in the hiring process. That's just what I was told about Americans going abroad and trying to find employment, that it's tougher because of this.

I'm voting for him, personally. Even though I do not believe it means a damn thing - I think voting is totally rigged. It's all a show. Maybe I'm just a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but.. I don't care. I go with what I gather.
The drug war is a waste of money and illustrates the government's craving to control the way people think. They gladly circulate narcotics when it suits their needs, but wish to completely eradicate the Cannabis plant. What the fuck kind of thinking is that - to eradicate a plant??
"Increased Eradication As of September 20, 2005, DEA’s Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program supported the eradication of 3,054,336 plants in the top seven marijuana producing states (California, Hawaii, Kentucky, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington and West Virginia). This is an increase of 315,628 eradicated plants over the previous year.76 For the 2005 eradication season, a total of 5 million marijuana plants have been eradicated across the United States. This is a one million plant increase over last year. The Departments of Agriculture and Interior combined have eradicated an estimated 1.2 million plants during this 2005 eradication season.77" http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/marijuana_position.html
The system is always struggling the solve the problems it created in the first place.
If you legalize Cannabis, or any other drug that can be grown, harvested, and extracted or processed if need be...
...stupid people will continue to buy from dealers, while the smart ones will get everything they need to produce their own personal supply.
If you legalize Cannabis, anyone can grow it on their window sill.
No one will need to rely on connections that are tied to violent gangs and whatnot (which are just as corrupt and power-hungry as the government), or ANY connections for that matter.
Ah. Whatever.
We're all doomed.

Its not about picking who you think is gonna win or who's getting the most publicity...its about picking who you believe will do the most good for our country. No one said anything about him winning...I've only heard words of support. Just because something isn't the popular idea doesn't mean its the wrong idea. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I think it is incredibly rude of you to talk down to anyone because of something they support. I completely understand how our government operates; change takes time. I know that even if he was elected into office everything wouldn't be fixed in the blink of an eye it would take many years to repair our declining economy.

no you should vote for whoever you want! what i mean is that ron paul is running for the republican nomination, and let's face it, his chances of winning are pretty damn slim. so vote for him if you'd like out of principle, but don't some how convince yourself that he's going to win. that's what i meant about being stubborn/delusional. because when someone else gets the nomination you'll have to find someone else to get behind and support because as far as i know ron paul doesn't plan to run for president as a third party candidate if he doesn't win the nomination. i guess i'm more or less addressing all the ron paul fanatics who refuse to admit that he isn't going to win no matter how amazing they think he is. he isn't going to get the nomination but that shouldn't stop you from voting for him in the primaries if he shares you views and you think he's right for the country.
i guess some of the blind optimism in this thread was kind of bothering me a bit. it's time to face the numbers and look to the future of this 08' election.

there's nothing forcing us to give anyone a job, there's nothing that says you cant be fired for no reason. understand that each time Al Sharpton makes an appearance at a 'racist' establishment it hit's national news, that's millions of homes that now know your company... that's free publicity, thats boosted revenue

I donated a little to the campaign, so they send me emails constantly now. I got an email saying that they are fighting a fight against big media and elitist politicians blah blah something something and that it is rough for the campaign and dr. paul. But I didn't see anywhere that he was dropping out just yet. I still don't see how he stands a chance, though.

Your remarks are expected, and someone had to say it. I'm sure most everyone understands that his chance at winning the republican nomination is very slight. Which means he needs all the support he can get.
To me, he's the only one that's right. I've never voted before, simply because I've never found a candidate I can wholly agree with. Ron Paul is my guy. Whether he wins this election or not, emphasis on not, I don't see much hope in anyone else.

if no one i can honestly support gets a nomination i usually just vote for a third party candidate i believe in, just so i can say i voted. politics in the US are fucked up atm. it's sad when half the country is choosing "the lesser of two evils", and the other half isn't even voting at all. maybe one day a third party revolution will occur, and we will have some good choices again.

parading around in the streets doesn't work though. there has to be a new way to wake up the rest of the country. some kind of major event that sheds serious light on third parties. at the moment i have no idea what that something is though.
also, it needs to happen in the down time before elections. it never ever works when a good candidate comes along right before the election when the stakes can be so high. when a "hero" type third party candidate rises from the political muck a bunch of people get interested again, but that isn't enough. people have to be looking forward to third party choices before election time. like it has to be incorporated into our culture and taken seriously. you know what i mean?

This is what I've been telling people too! I foresee that MJ would be LEGAL by State Legislation in California by 2010-2012 under a Ron Paul administration.
