I just finished scraping a bunch of those off my new cacti. I believe they are some sort of scale, or calluses . Either way they are all gone now.
Go easy on the oil, it can burn your cacti.

The oil or spray that you are applying to your cacti.
I can see large amounts of residue on you cactus.

i have never applied oil or anything to any of my cacti. that is one of the four pedros that i got last week. so i guess the grower applied something to it.
so is the spot something i should cut out or scrape off? what about the residue, can it be removed?

That just looks like a tiny blemish, nothing to worry about. They just naturally happen sometimes and don't harm the cacti at all. Just watch it to make sure nothing becomes of it.
Most rot I've seen is dark green to black. Orange is a lot less common IME.
The residue is probably just residue left from water drying on the cactus. Not harmful and I wouldn't wipe it off because the blue coloration of your cactus will wipe right off along with it and will not come back.

Ahh, i was guessing you were using some spray on your cacti. Sun-light and liquids do not mix by the way, the globule can act like a magnifying glass on your cactus.
I had a few of those spots on my cacti and removed them by scraping them off with a knife tip. They seemed to have and organism inside much like that of a scale insect you find on plants.
My new cactus has fungi-like discolorations that match your description plainswalker, is there a cure for fungi (other than removal)?

also cactus skin DOES NOT like oil (ex: neem oil) and will usually clog the pores it uses to breath out of and cause ROT
i NEVER spay any soaps or oils on any of my cacti

I also have this milky looking residue present on most of my cactus... It will wipe off, but also seems to kind of wipe into the flesh if that makes sense. I just figured it was natural...
Is this something you need to clean off with water?
And also why is keeping the blue coloration important?
