And to all of you who KEEP INSISTING that fatburger isn't that great, it's because you've been eating at these SHITTY FRANCHISED locations that don't even fucking hold a candle to the ORIGINAL STAND.
NO FATBURGER LOCATION that i've been to outside the original has ever come close to the quality you get from the Last great Stand.
If you get the chance, go to the Original fatburger, and i garuntee it'll far exceed your experiences with the expansion locations.
The same can be said with another great fast food chain, Tommy's. The original location on Rampart is EASILY the best quality version of Tommy's you can get.
I have to totally disagree with you on the Tommys burger thing. Ive been to the original numerous times, and to the other random ones, and really I found no difference. My favorite is the one by the big ass Budweiser plant however, but thats just because I like looking at the beer factory.
Never tried the original Fatburger though, just the shitty one in the Valley I think near the 101 exit De Soto Ave.

I don't know what thread you've been in (must've gotten confused in the whoosh of the forum switch ), but Tommy's was noted via the Cityguide link to Best Burgers in Los Angeles from Post #7953126, and again by yours truly in Post #7953150.
I unfortunately don't have any self-produced images of the Original Tommy's, but it typically would appear to be any ol' burger smothered in smooth - almost diarrheal - brown pasty chili. My brother in law used to joke that they keep it so deliciously smooth by continuously flatuating into the giant vat of chili behind closed doors. Perhaps not, but at any rate - it is a great burger, though certainly necessitating additional CHILI PEPPER POWER to cut through the heavy feel of that greaseball.

My favorite Tommy's item would have to be their sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. Good god is that thing delicious (only served until 11am)! The Chili Boat with everything, extra onions, and a bag of tortilla chips for dipping is a great item ToGo, as you can easily reheat the chili without the disappointing soggyness that would become of something wrapped in a chili slathered bun. Chili Cheese Dogs are also advised.

A few miles from me is the world famous lions tap. Voted best burger in the nation (I forget what year) but damn they make a great burger. Secret ingredients for the ground chuck make them melt in your mouth.
Greasy as all hell and served on a paper plate:)

There comes a point, though, when a burger becomes unwieldy and impractical. Sure it looks nice, but try eating a burger that is taller than it is wide. I value edibility above everything else

Touche. However, there are times when it is appropriate, even desired, to smash one's face into a steaming pile of grease with no care toward the propensity of its hand-heldedness. Pure gorging glory. There is a time and a place, to state, if it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face!

Not to criticize but did you use disappearing hamburger for those buns?
70/30 is a no no unless you make the patty twice the size of the bun before grilling.

I can say without a doubt, that the Franchised Fatburger locations have left me pretty dissatisfied when i've expected it to be like the original.
I've been to the fatburger in Las Vegas, Irvine, and South Central, and each time i've left almost shocked by the drop in quality.
But the original location, the entire reason behind the expansion, is pretty much rool:

I don't have enough experience with alternate Fatburger locations to make such a conclusive statement. However, I must give the nod to TheCow re: his contest of the theory that none but the Original Tommy's can do what they do.

What I will say, is that the original Original Tommy's at the intersection of Bevery and Rampart in downtown Los Angeles (2575 W. Beverly Blvd.), is typically a safer bet than the outside locations for one reason: volume. They move so many burgers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that you'd be hard pressed to find a stale bun or not-so-fresh fries. At other locations (Eagle Rock comes to mind), you do run the risk of hitting a stale bun or old fries every now and again in the off hour. But generally speaking, I believe that Tommy's offers consistent quality from restaurant to restaurant.
Anyone else have favorites they care to contribute? Please note an address if you do, so we can come visit too!
