patent question.

ALRIGHT. i thought of a pretty good idea, and im almost positive that it has not been thought of yet, i cant find anything on google about it. what do i have to go through to get a patent on an idea?
i have thought of a much cheaper and economical way to heat a driveway, sidewalk, tile floor or even a roof in places where it snows. not only would it cost less than half of the price of a conventional heating system to install, it would cost the same if not less to operate. think about it, never shovel snow again.
for those of you who live where it snows, do you know anyone with a heated driveway? i have some questions if you do.

Rich people heat driveways around here, just because something is already done doesn't mean you cant make it better. Having a team of engineers against you makes it really difficult though.

well its not geared for people that dont mind shoveling. its geared for those who are tired of doing it, or just too lazy.
and yes people do, its already available in the form of "radiant heating" which involves electric coils. my system would not use electric heateing wires under the concrete.

I install radiant snow melt drive ways quite a bit We just did one for Maine Medical and the reason they got it is so no ice could ever be in the drive way so some sorry sick guy cant slip and make his trip to the hospital just that much worse

well i have looked around quite extensively online to see if it has been done, and as of yet i see not even one shred of evidence that it has. it is such a simple design i really cant believe it hasnt been used, and is not in heavy use already. it used less power than the radiant systems and would cost about 1/3 or less of the price of the radiant system.

aperently you dont understand how efficient radiant is with forced hot water with calefee mixing valves and other control moduals. Think about this the water that comes out of the ground (wells) is at 52 degrees year round. The water temp for ice melt driveways has to be about 45 to 50 degrees. so other than a running a pump their really isnt to much else other than mixing and bla bla bla so how much cheaper can you get than that
explain your system cause I bet I can show you the one big flaw or that its not as efficient as you think.

woah, sorry man for knocking the idea, had no idea people actually heated driveways. lived in germany and austria, and when the snow falls you just get a shovellinand lash down pebbles to add grip.
always thought of it as one of the simple pleasures of life, the rewardig feeling after doing some manual labour, but to each their own.
Good luck man! hope things go well for ya and you can patent it, who knows when im older and don't have as much free time on my hands, ill probably come crawlin and ask for a heated driveway

seeing as how you install forced hot water systems, im not about to tell you my idea. ill tell you after i get the patent.
i will say that it will end up costing a fraction of the cost to set up a radiant system. and it IS more efficient than just forced hot water. just tell me one thing fee, how much does it cost to set up one of your systems initially? that right there will tell me if im wasting my time. because everything i have seen online for radiant has not been cheaper than $10 a square foot. i can beat that.
