Becoming Airplane Pilot... Can I do acid?

So in the future (aka next few years), there is a possibility of me taking flying lessons and eventually becoming a pilot. What kind of a pilot, I have no idea, but I'm guessing for a big company or something like that.
So anyways, my first question is: I heard that if you take acid, you can't become a pilot because there is the risk of getting an acid flashback during one of your flights. (I also heard this is true for brain surgeons). Keep in mind I live in Canada so the rules may be different than the states. So have you guys ever heard of this rule/ what do you think of it (ie it would be pretty bad to have a flashback while piloting)?
And my second question is that I heard acid leaves your system within 24 hours? So if I were to take acid (never done it before) would there be any way of testing me for it, during any of the process of becoming a pilot?
The main reason I havent tried acid yet is because of these rumours that I heard, and I didn't want to demolish and chances of becoming a pilot. I do however want to try it because I heard its a good experience. Let me know what you guys think/know, it would be a great help.

I would say no. Choose one or the other. I normally would say go for it to all psychedelic habits. But even if your not under the influence, peoples lives are on the line. Do what ever you want to yourself, but don't drag other peoples' lives into it. Its bad for you and its bad for the drug's good name if anything happens.
Ive had flashbacks. And I have flown a small plan before. Not in that order.

I have always been under the impression that acid flashbacks are extremely rare. But that's not to say that they don't happen.

Ya, but their likelihood increases under stress. And a stressful situation for a pilot is not a situation I want to be around.

My dad and i used to talk about his earlier years. he was a big acid head and although he did say he had flashbacks he said it was only for a few months after he quit. Hasn't had one since. I think a lot of the hype over flashbacks is exaggerated ie: you do get flashbacks but more of a mindset and not as visual.
If your looking into becoming an commercial airline pilot then i wouldn't worry anyway that shits all done by computer

Yeah I gotta say I wouldn't mind my Pilot being a stoner, but to be a dead head idk. I agree you should do one or the other. Do you like flying planes more than drugs ? You only live once if you do enjoy how mushrooms, acid, X, weed any of those make you feel its almost worth it to not be a surgeon or pilot and lead another life that includes these wonderful mind altering substances and at the same time still have a good job.

You can, but if they ask you if you did say no...they cant really test for it. Unless they do like a hair sample but even then.

They can't test for it once its out of your system if I'm not mistaken.
And you most certainly will not get a flashback during flight, and even if you did you would be fine, It's not a true return of the trip it's just a flashback, and usually they only last several seconds.

Anyone I have ever asked about a flash back can describe it as a mindset or very slight visuals for about 2-3 seconds. You will be fine.

You can get flashbacks from any traumatizing experience, does that mean that rape victims or war veterans shouldn't be pilots? You obviously shouldn't eat LSD and fly the next day, but to not eat acid at all? Just be responsible with it if you decide to use LSD while/before becoming a pilot.

When you are filling out application profiles there will normally be a question asking if you ever have used psychedelics. I applied for a job with the FBI's Tax Evasion team and it seemed really serious to lie about my response. A friend of mine is the pilot I know who said they ask the same thing for commercial pilots.

flashback means way too many things apparently.
I think what this rumor stems from are people who have had a very bad experience, and can relive that torture for far more than one minute when sober. Its an anxiety type deal.
Yes, that type of flashback could get in the way of flying.
With all the crap people talk about flashbacks, I wouldnt assume you cant be a pilot just because you are tripped out all the time, or occasionally feel like you have entered into some other state of mind.
I also wouldnt assume that lsd is any worse than mushrooms as far as flashback potential.
After all. The reason this is embedded in psychedelic lore is because there are extreem cases, most of which probably involve lsd and im sure you know why(not for any good reason).
You can be a pilot if you know you can.
For example, I dont want roky erikson flying my plane.
If you want to fly, you will know if you can fly safely.
You really dont have anything to worry about aside from totally flipping out while sober, which you probably should have seen coming if that is the case.
Even within this thread, you can see that the term "flashback" means all sort of different things.
I live within a flashback. I see visuals all the time and can go to places within my mind that are purely derived from my experiences with hallucinogens. Some doors just stay open.
Only you can decide if you are capable and not borderline mentally unstable in some way(not capable of flying a plane). My guess is that you are fully capable.
If we were talking about anxiety attacks somewhat spurred on by the use of psychedelic for example, id say try to deal with that, and then become a pilot.
Not many even heavy psychedelic users out there complain that they loose their mind for any period of time when sober, although I have definitely seen it.
Something just seems off for a few moments to some degree, and visuals come back to some degree. I cant relate to that because I have not experienced that and I see visuals all day every day. Even in my case, I could still learn how to fly safely.
If your nutty(even if its in a sort of warm and welcomed way) you will know it, and you wont want to fly planes for a living.
My best friend is this way. Smart mother fucker. BUT I dont want him flying my plane no matter what.
He still cant tie his own shoes(learn the right way to) and he is a poker genius at the same time.
He has his skills, is smarter than most people, but is capable of loosing it for a few minutes.
This fucker plays 25 tables of online poker at once. They actually flagged him and told him to enter a code to assure that he was not a mechanized robot program. He was all stoned as hell and this really made his heart race. It scared him alot. Thought people were watching him and that made him VERY uncomfortable.
You will know if you can fly planes. My friend doesnt just have flashbacks. He is living a flashback.
I just hope he is ok, because the last time I saw him he was lonely and pretty weirded out by himself. Luckily im there and he can say what he needs to say.
Even if he could fly planes, he wouldnt.
Just trying to broaden the spectrum of the word "flashback".
A flashback is a fairy tale.
Learn your brain. This shit stays with you. Thats why its so great, and somehow threatening at the same time.

You'll be fine(...) If you'd said you were already an airplane pilot--or within a month or so of becoming licensed--and had asked about the wisdom of taking LSD for the first time, I'd say it would be less than wise. Generally, dry(sober) "flashbacks" are at worst temporarily disorienting and confusing; they are not moments of bona fide psychosis or full-on dissociation from reality. In other words, y'ain't gonna be like: "I AM A GOLDEN GOD and I flies where I wants!!!" then crash into a mountain with 168 souls. More likely (as in likelier but still not predictable with any measure of certainty) you might feel funny for 30 seconds or less--but not so funny you wouldn't be able to keep your hands on the controls. Assuming you continue with the plan and end up piloting passenger planes, you should be as concerned with spontaneous migraines, mass bird migrations, hardware failures, and UFO sightings as LSD flashbacks. The vast, overwhelming majority of such pilots are skilled enough to be able to work through such challenges (and of course large passenger planes always employ 2 pilots anyways). If you're not relatively comfortable with the X-factor of piloting (unforeseen problems of any stripe) then you shouldn't be a pilot.

Truth be told, despite my recreational habits, if I am a passenger in a plane I demand that the pilot be the sort of uber-perfect example of human excellence that I could only dream about. No drink, no drugs, no obsessive habits. Cool, calm. Talk about a trusted member of society.
But, this is the real world. People are people.

to be the best pilot you can be, avoid all the pitfalls. you see that something might not be good, you take no chances at all.
non-pilots cannot give pilots advice.
i am not a pilot but I know that much. Piloting is in a different class of human conduct. you do not need psychedelic drugs to have a rewarding life.

lol, if thats the only thing stopping you, and you're prepared to lie when they ask you, i say go for it.
psychedelics will probably change you, and you might not wind up a pilot as a result, but unless you're on them while flying i seriously doubt they will make you crash a plane.
BTW, looking at your signature picture i'm really curious how you're going to do with your first LSD trip.
