too much water in jars (PF style cakes)
    #7950406 - 01/29/08 01:20 PM (16 years, 3 days ago)

i posted this pic yyesterday wondering if it was a contam but found out that too much water got into it while i was steaming the jar. can this cake be saved just by turning the jar upside down for remainder of incubation or should i just toss it?

80% of the surface of that cake is colonized but it seems the myc doesnt want to grow in that one tan looking area (too much water somebody said)

if the ratio was messed up how come they colonized as much as they did? the only spot the cake didnt colonize is the part you see. the other side is covered entirely with myc...

Since it's more prone to contaim, back in the jar, add water, and open up, see if you get pins...

That's a great idea too... However, might be a waste hence the chance of contaim.

Has it stalled? Give it a week or two, then fruit. Crumble it and use as spawn to a bulk substrate.

I have a similar situation with several of the jars from my first run. As an experiment I pulled one out and cut off the uncolonized parts, placing it in the fruiting chamber with the good jars. Much of the middle was uncolonized as well so the problem may be bigger than you can see.

That said, with some of the other jars I plan on crumbling them into coir and see if that can rescue them.

Mycelium will grow in all sorts of water ratios. There is just the ideal ratio which we do not have here.
Give it a few more days and you can open that bad boy up and remove the colonized parts. Rinse the majority of uncolonized brf off and you can stick the chunks together. They will connect with each other within a day.
Then you can fruit it
