Not koans. But once I tripped on about 1 gram of shrooms, and while I was coming down I read that first 20 or so pages of Alan Watts' "The Way of Zen." It blew my mind. I knew I had to make a point to finish the book later, and I did. I think I am going to try low dose reading again sometime in the near future. Some might say that it biases you toward finding certain ideas more appealing, but you could just as easily argue that the drug helps you to overcome biases that are normally there (the good 'ol filter analogy).

I would definitely like to try koans. Some that I have read seem absolutely non-sensical. I would be willing to bet that their meaning would more become clear.

A koan is not to be understood in the traditional sense. It is more like the mind gets wrapped up trying so hard to solve it and finally gives up - and then enters another realm of peace and wisdom. The meaning and answer is not about the words or concepts, but the place where the words come from.

It is a device to break free.

My favorite koan is chocolate ice cream with the sprinkles on top. They are yummy!

Cheers,

I believe that would be the ever so popular waffle koan
