i have seen many pics of loph grafts on leafless pereskiopsis. does that mean they are just not at their full potential? do the leaves grow back?

no the leafs dont grow back unless it grows a new tip and i do have a few leaf less grafts and they stay healthy but i am not seeing any growing
also i notice after a while i will check them and poof the grafting stock is yellow and dead.

Would the vascular tissue just become part of the cacti @ that point, why not burry the who pereiskiopsis @ that point? Some one told me that buired pereskiopisis dont work very well....ohh contradictions.

A pereskiopsis will still support a graft without leaves but not as efficiently. Its not sudjested(By me) to bury any park of a grafting stock. It will rot or make rooting the crown difficult.
And this is for many of my grafts that iv ungrafted.. Cutting well above the stock, treating with sulfur. rooting powder wont hurt. And rooting in coco coir is very recommended.

coco coir ??
why do you choose to use that?
any cacti soil/mix will work fine, also when you are rooting cacti you dont want to give them any water until they get roots and even when they do get them you dont want too much water and coir holds water very well
i think you are thinking of rooting pereskiopsis in coir

grafted asterias are often much cheaper cause they dont have true form, and so much about astro collection is about form!
its not just an art, but a science....you would be surprised how picky people get with these fuggers. for example different cv's/vars/forms have different ratios that are considered better. A. asterias for example is best at 7x10. that is considered the best overall shape. then there is pattern, areole distance, rib shape, rib depth spacing length etc etc. it really gets nuts. and 1 cm in rib difference can make a $70 asto a $600 astro.
it really depends on a lot of different factors, and every variety seems to have a new set of rules....
i tried staying away from this genus cause i knew what i would get into....6 years and i finally broke.
anyway, here is one you will probably not find on google 5 shrooms if ya guess what it is. its my prized possession

Very nice crest kadakuda!
I'm pretty fascinated with astrophytums myself but if I start really collecting them my life will be over I think.
