Naah, they just want to devalue the dollar to the point where the entire multi-trillion dollar US national debt is worth exactly one loaf of bread.
With this loaf they will pay off their creditors and the US will be debt free. It's a fiendish strategy.

no, what will happen is the U.S. dollar will decrease and exports will increase bringing the dollar back up.

this fiendish strategy that you talk about is actually a well known strategy that is used by many countries.

this devaluation of the US currency does have its upside. The chinese have long kept their money pegged at a low rate relative to the US, keeping their exports super cheap (cheap chinese products? no way!).

Now that they've started to let their currency increase in value (baby steps, however) our $236bn trade deficit with them should decrease. Which it needs to - that large of a trade deficit is not sustainable in the long run

makes sense, guess thats why the US keeps pressuring them to make their $ (china) worth more.

im still waiting for WW3 between these 2 hard headed nations. Im not sure where will have the best seat, here in Taiwan or back home in canada lol.

there will be no ww3, at least not with the U.S. and China, and not if things continue down the same path.

As a stock market investor, I am very pleased.  The 1.25% reduction in the federal funds rate over the last two weeks has made cash investments much less appealing (since they will yield less by way of CDs and bonds), which will end up driving that money back into stocks.

:yesnod:

The deficit Bush's tax bill will cause will further weaken the dollar, but since the money will remain in our economy it will increase GDP.  Is it weird that to me it seems similar to a stunt I've seen penny stocks pull?  Diluting their outstanding shares by converting restricted shares.  Only they actually put the proceeds back into growing the company.

They're really trying to create a perfect storm for a bullish market.  I think it will work too. Too many strong indicators, imo.

Either way, I think we will avoid a recession. Our economy is very resilient.

I hope for another rate cut ASAP!

So 1 I can make money on my Calls and 2 I can short the dollar and go long the euro/whatever currency which is going to go up.
