pan cyan fruiting help please? lots of pics( experience needed), Updated Daily: Grow Log
    #7947102 - 01/28/08 07:30 PM (16 years, 4 days ago)

I have recently started growing pan cyans using birdseed spawn bag and 50 50 casing. The substrate layer is at 3/4 to 1 inch thick with half inch of casing layer. Humidity is around 90% to 95% and an average temperature of 75 to 77 degree F. The following pictures are from day 1 in fruiting chamber to day 5. Any help or comments are really appreciated.
:mushroom2:
Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6

Day 7

I'm not sure, but does these following pictures look like they are contaminated?
Birdseed is yellow, bruised mycelium is blue. Together, they make green. so it's hard to distinguish if it's mold or mycelium.
And in this one, there is a little green and a circle of yellow? I'm not sure.

:mushroom2:
Is there anything I should tweak or change ?
Are there any signs of overlay?
:mushroom2:
Please help me make this my first successful grow!
I will be updating with photos daily.

potential issues:
too cool of temperature, shoot for the low 80s
too much CO2 build-up from the high sides of the foil container
not enough FAE
too thick of a casing layer but just by a little, aim for 1/4in

but give it time and a lot of fresh air and you are bound to get something. patience is your friend. good luck!

I don't know much at all about cyans but is the substrate supossed to be that thin?

waffles420. If you have read just a few of my post you would know what your problem is. it is super obvious. And your cute little gauge does nothing for us.
i will give you a hint. Do you know what your humidity level is right at the very surface where the mycelium and casing layer are coming together???

get a spray bottle and set it on the finest mist setting and spray away. You want those rhizomorphs that are sticking up to lay down, you also want to keep the others from popping up. This will in turn induce pinning. It is still in a vegetive state. Make it rain!!!

i sprayed it lightly. Is it ok for there to be water droplets on the mycelium. Also, should i spray and fan daily?

Yes, thats fine. I've never had problems from a drop of water. Just make sure you're not drowning the mycelium. Remember, mushrooms are 90% water. You should be misting multiple times a day.

Pans fruit poorly if at all, without manure. In addition, they rarely fruit from wbs, cased or not. Good luck, but don't hold your breath.

should i mix the substrate with manure/vermiculite and recase or put a layer of manure vermiculite on top of the casing and just recase later? Or is my setup doomed to failure?

Personally, I'd start another batch while you see if this one does anything.

id try and run this one out. spray it like tahoe suggested but i wouldnt mix it up and spawn it to manure in case there are any dormant mold spores on top just waiting to be woken up.

next time do a little bit more research to try and figure out the best growing paramiters for them and then go from there my friend.

If you dont want to start over, try a possible agar loop from a piece of the myc to procure healthy mycelium thats sterile for the next try. Im sure this has already been thought of though for you.

I recently did pans and had them pop up all over the sides where there was no casing. I wouldn't use a casing thicker than 1/4 inch but that is just my preference, I don't have the patience to wait longer so that is my reasoning..

Best of luck with it.
