Post your favorite guitar solo here. If you can find a youtube vid that would be best I think. Anyways mine is this, love the improv in the begging and the solo is damn amazing.

This song has my favorite guitar solo of all time. It stirs so many emotions inside of me.
Edit: Gah, the stupid music video doesn't have the whole song, and it cuts out some of the guitar solo... makes it 10000x not as good

Especially at the end of the solo when he just breaks out of the typical way of soloing. He goes nuts.

Everyone always goes right for the rock guitarists when they think of "solos". But here is a clip of my favorite guitarist, Pat Metheney. Even if jazz is not your thing I think you will appreciate this one if you stick it out. The solo starts at about 3:45 and goes to the end. By the end of the song there is no doubting his skill. Also, I love the effect he uses on this one. Much different then anything you'll hear a rock guitarist do!

I wish I could upload a song from Pat Metheny Group's The Way Up CD, because there are so many amazing guitar solos. Since I can't I'll use this clip, the guitar solo is really awesome, even if the song is a little queer.
If I could upload Hendrix's Machine Gun from Live at the Filmore East album I would do that, too. That song is fucking incredible. Instead have a video from the Isle of Wight of the same song.
Those are probably my three favorite guitar works (including Maggot Brain) ever.

It's just too hard to pick one, or a few for that matter, so here's some:
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower, Bold as Love
Dave Gilmour - Just about all of his. This guy is godly and has that unique style that I don't believe can be truly replicated. I know people really love the Comfortably Numb solo, and it is pretty stellar, but there is nothing like cranking Time up reaaalll loud and letting the dude wail. Gilmour said in Guitar World that he likes to crank the amp up so high that it slices through you like a razor, and I guess that's how he gets that rediculous tone.
Children of Bodom - Sixpounder, Needled 24/7, Bodom Beach Terror, Bed of Razor, etc. Alexi Laiho is a madman.
Neil Young - Dude has a really strange soloing style, but I really dig the guitar work on Down by the River, though I guess it's not so much a solo as it is just jamming.
The Doors - Light My Fire
I'll also have to second Johnny Greenwood's unorthodox wailing on Paranoid Android. Great fuckin' song.

Very nice! Mr. Metheny will be at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on the 24th of February. Stevie Ray Vaughan's blusy rendition of Jimmy Hendrix's Little Wing always gets me going (see attached).

Lots of really good stuff on here. Had to keep the thread open for a while to listen to them all. I wouldn't say this is my favourite, but it's definitely up there.
Er, just realized this thread is for guitar solos. Oh well.

Glad to see some other Metheny fans here. I had the pleasure of seeing him live in Vegas a while back (7 years or so). He is pretty amazing. And he even pulled out the 'Pikasso' guitar and played a piece. Its wild to watch him play that thing!
