Even to a beginner, the mushroom smell is obvious/unmistakable; smells like "earth". If it smells funny at all its probably a contaminant.

i just took the foil off the jars and smelled over the inoculation holes and its coming from the jars i smelt more than one. its a tub in tub setup with water and a submergible heater in the first one and the second sitting in the first. i steam sterilized correctly. ( brought to a good boil then reduced and kept boiling for an hour and 10 min) took them out cleaned my area with clorox newhere spray cleaned my hands really well then burned the needle between jars, and wipped between holes, with alcohol. i kept the foil on the jars and didnt loosen them up.

what are you using as an incubation chamber?
take your jars out and put them in a closet or a high shelf or above your fridge while you try to figure out what is going on with the smell..
no real telling bro..
if it smells like mildew it's probably your towel.. mildew is mold for fabrics.. wash yo towel and your entire incubator and everything is what i would say.

yap cobweb smells but it's easily combatable..
what temp have you been incubating at and i'm guessing you're using PF cakes?
wait until you see contam growth before throwing it out i'd say..
how did you sterilize your jars?

Sounds like contams to me but hopefully not. Wait it out and see what happens. Best case scenario the smell goes away and you produce amazing fruits, worst case scenario you throw out a couple of jars and start over. keep us updated

If it smells like mold, mildew or dirt, it's mold. If it smells like you forgot to empty the kitchen trash yesterday, or smells sweet or sour, it's bacteria.
Next time, don't use a silly incubator and simply put them on a bookshelf at room temp. 75F/24C is perfect.
Also, remove the foil after removing jars from the PC or boiling pot. Foil keeps your filter material damp, leading to a higher rate of contamination. RR
