100% Vermiclite Casing SUCKS BALLS

1. Can't tell the moisture content. 2. No beneficial micro organisms to help initiate pinning. 3. Is contaminant prone. 4. When harvest it destroys the pinning surface and the myceliul network. 5. Poor Texture

Isn't that a good thing? Unless you like trichodermia, that is. Besides, I can't help but think the reason you posted this isn't just because verm sucks.

Eh had to edit it...vermiculite sucks and pros agree as a casing layer....WOOOO....I posted it because straight vermiculite sucks as a casing layer alone

Well if you are going to flame something, you really need to provide some experiments or data of some sort and not just OPINIONS. Theyre like assholes, we all have them and nobody likes them. I know plenty of people who have used the 100% verm casing and done fine. it may not be optimal, but it does work. I have done it. I had awesome results from it. But thats just me. Anybody esle want to jump in here? feel free.

ive had great flushes using straight verm, its more about the preparation/application than the verm what seems the issue here.

the Rez-effect tek is verm casing and that produces a sick flush and a huge pinset...it is a late verm casing though.

rez effect is while casing mixing substrate with some amount of field capacity vermiculite and then adding your casing , well it has got nothing to do with late casing. please dont comment if u dont know Peace

Yeah umm I know people will argue this all day but It works fine for me, I have a cased substrate right now with 100% fine grade vermiculite. 1.Fits in all the nooks and crannys 2.You can tell how moist it is just fine. 3.Didn't sterilize or pasturize and no contam problems. 3.Ive had no more problems harvesting than with 50/50 they both pull up about the same from the casing layer.
Quote:
No beneficial micro organisms to help initiate pinning
4.This cased substrate I have currently pinned very nicely, it was very nice and even. It also started pinning the day after I placed in the FC, so I would not call that a pinning problem.
So basically I don't really agree with this post, but this is just a matter of opinion.

So what do you suggest then?
Does casing really help that much?

I never have had a mishap with vermiculite casings... if you are not clean and just open your chambers every 10 minutes with dirty hands, then you will get contams... most of the time, its not the casing that houses the infection.. its you..
second, you dont want anything in the casing anyway.. ALL ITS THERE TO DO IS PROVIDE MOISUTRE.. thats it... and if you prepare your vermiculite casing the right way, then a light misting, if that, once per day will be perfect time and time again...

Actually, verm can provide moisture to support a flush, but it doesn't fit the definition of 'casing', a term which is tossed around and abused fairly loosely. Furthermore, cobweb mold LOVES plain verm, which lacks the beneficial organisms to fight it off. RR
