No bloodhound required.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy’s keen sense of smell led to a cocaine bust in Bonita Springs on Friday.
According to the report, the deputy was sitting in traffic in the area around East Terry Street and Morton Avenue at about 7:40 p.m. when he noticed an overwhelming odor of burning marijuana drifting back into his squad car from the vehicle in front of him. Executing a traffic stop, the deputy proceeded to search the suspect, at which point a plastic baggie containing 120 pieces of crack cocaine with a total package weight of about 10 grams allegedly fell from the man’s left pant leg.
Nestor Daniel Reyna, 28, of 26590 Noble Lane, Bonita Springs, was arrested on a charge of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute. He was transported to Lee County jail for booking.
A check of the Lee County Sheriff’s Web site shows that Reyna has a previous felony conviction on his record for burglary of an occupied residence.

10 grams of crack sounds like too much fun for one night. But seriously if your out driven around with a prior felony and 10 grams of crack, why would you be smoking a joint? That's probably the dumbest motherfucker...

What? He shouldn't drive just because he has a prior felony conviction? That doesn't make sense. Sure he shouldn't drive around smoking marijuana, with or without a prior felony conviction, but the original quoted poster did not mention anything about smoking marijuana. He only mentioned driving with a felony conviction.

According to the report, the deputy was sitting in traffic in the area around East Terry Street and Morton Avenue at about 7:40 p.m. when he noticed a black man driving the car in front of him. Executing a bogus traffic stop, the deputy proceeded to illegally search the suspect. I fixed up a few typos in the story...

Ya, you gotta be a fucking retard to smoke a joint when you have mad shit on you but I have seen it on cops several times, like the black guy with no front tires driving on rims and tries to tell the cop that the 6oz chuck of crack is a donut and a qP of bud in his other pocket....crackheads don't think....I talked to peoples neighbors all cracked out and then popped open their neighbors window and climbed in...I was shootin 1/2oz of coke a day and a nasty H habit....that life sucked....kinda glad I went to jail.Don't want to ever go back either.

For once I really don't doubt this idiot was smoking cannabis and the cop smelled it. Cops don't always charge you with EVERY crime that you've committed.
I will admit, that this officer would have been wise to document the cannabis if smelling burnt cannabis was his ONLY reason for pulling this suspect over. If he had some other legal reason for executing a traffic stop, then even documenting the presence of burning cannabis wouldn't be necessary.

> Cops don't always charge you with EVERY crime that you've committed.
In my experience, the only time a cop would not charge you with everything they possibly could is when they are trying to get out of work. In this case, one drug or ten drugs, it doesn't matter, the amount of work is the same. If the cop is going to follow through for a single drug, then everything the cop can add to help the case will be added.
> maybe the guy smoked a joint before he went joyridin with crak and prior convictions, and thats what the cop was smelling.
And maybe God himself came out of the heavens and told the cop what to do. I live in an area where smoking is part of the culture, and you gotta be smoking a lot for the smell to make it from car to car in such a way that you have no doubt which car (or even if it is a car) that the smell is coming from.
I doubt the drugs were planted, but I also doubt the cop smelled cannabis smoke.

around here, if you get caught, the cop will drop the little shit like paraphernalia and just charge you with the possession or whatever it is you got caught doing.
Also, I had a buddy driving his jeep in front of me, windows up and all, and he was smoking a joint and I smelled it. It doesn't take much for smoke to escape one car and go into the one behind it.
I do doubt that this guy was smoking when he got busted though.
