Anyone have an intro to brewing tek? This is something I want to get in to, but i can't find anything on shroomery, only outside resources. Also, found cool site at ratebeer.com. Thx in advance.

uh, beer?
Seriously though, i'm not overly knowledgeable, but i'd prolly want to start out aiming for a lager. I'm reading the wikipedia article for "beer" as we speak, so i will elaborate more if possible when finished. Homebrew laws in U.S. are unlimited as long as you don't sell, right?

Check out my sig. www.howtobrew.com That is a really good site, a book written by John Palmer. The 3rd edition is out now, but the basics still remain the same. By the way, beeradvocate > ratebeer.

The Complete Joy of Homebrewing While this is not a free tek (unless your local library has it) but it is by far the best published book on home brewing.
Also I think US home brew laws state that you can not make over 200 gallons a year.

I would never expect a site dedicated to the growing of mushrooms to even bother with beer brewing. You have to look elsewhere.

Brewing will require more than a tek. I mean, sure, there's some cheap bum-wine teks out there. But to make quality brew, specifically beer, you need to read up a bit on the science behind it.
And like mycology, cleanliness is key. Beyond that, there are a few specific processes that must be spot on, or you will ruin a lot of hard work.
One being that while your wort is at a specific temp, you have to handle it properly, or your brew will end up tasting like cardboard.
Also, the specific gravity and ratio to sucrose has to be right if you ferment in sealed bottle to provide carbonation, or your bottles will explode.
It's a fun rewarding hobby, but like everything else, it's worth doing right.

http://www.austinhomebrew.com/ for when you get into it ;]
Austin is home to one of the largest homebrew supply places, they do most of their business online, but have a very cool shop in town too.
They sell "kits" to get people started, the include yeast starters, hop extract, malt extracts, grains, caps, and other misc. stuff to get you going. they also sell anything else you would need to brew.

You must be new. There is an entire forum devoted to money management on here, soon shroomery will take over your life and you will turn here for everything from daily news to sports scores to comics to playful banter and evening company.

Totally missed them bro, thanks for that tho. I went ahead and picked up this:

this:

and this:

So I'm expecting those soon. I figure I'll go ahead and read through them, then move forward after that. I like the teks on here though because I can read all of them and have all of the different ways of doing something, as well as actual contacts that i can PM with questions or requests for advice. Anyone on here growing their own hops? are the only ones I have looked at so far, These but they appear to be too bitter, and the massive amount of different "strains" if you will leave me confused. Thanks for the info guys.

It's actually my belief that shroomery should start acquiring the rest of the internet in it's entirety. I'll be on other forums like "Goddamnit can you make it so i have a mouse over preview" or "Can you change the forum icons so it tells me which threads i've posted in" and they're like "Uh, that's not possible" It pisses me off.

Usually, in most cases, to seek an answer to a question on a forum, you have to post, then wait a day or two....
Here, if you can't find it in the search feature, then you can get an answer pretty damn quick....
The other day, someone asked me if I wanted their left over darvocet. Before I said yes, I did a quick search that yeileded....
Darvs are weak Darvs suck Tylenols is better than darvocet. Fuck Darvocet
And I was like... "Nah, I don't need 'em"

Exactly. It's amazing how fast things move here. I'd imagine it has something to do with the 45,000 members of which the majority probably have addictive personalities.
On the note of getting things answered though, you grow your own hops, or know anyone that does?

I know people that do.... If you brew a few times a year, you can grow enough to use from one large pot. Like a 10 gallon pot. Just provide something for it to climb, and make the trellis one that you can fold or bend down to pick hops from the vine....
It's totally doable. Easier than growing morning glory.

Yeah I found them too, thanks.
I was thinking more of larger scale production, as I have access to a farm. I was just looking on e-bay, and two rhizomes on there are going for $31. That could prove to be lucrative.

Growing your own hops would be legit. There is a worldwide hop shortage going on right now, so it would be lucrative indeed. My friend that homebrews couldn't get the particular variety of hop he wanted because of this shortage. The shortage is serious and some breweries will close or change their recipes because of it. :[
