first grow ever, first cake ever. Turned out amazing.

yes, this was my first grow ever. first cake ever to be exact (the others are coming up behind). I used the pf tek brf/verm, and then stuck them in an RR style FC. The main thing i focused on was PLENTY OF FAE and LOTS of DIRECT MISTING.
It took them around 3 months to fully colonize (the others im growing are in there 4th. can anyone tell me why?) and around 2 weeks in the FC before pinning. But once those pins hit, there wasnt any stopping it.
Alright, now for the pics. Start to finish.

if quality isnt great, its due to my camera phone. sorry!
any help/advice on future grows is always welcome. and im happy to answer any questions y'all have. thanks!

VERY nice!
I'm not sure why they took so long to colonize and pin but it looks like it was worth the wait!
Great job!

Lots of direct misting gave you a result like that??? Hmm, weird. I wonder why other people are afraid of getting their cakes wet.

What did you put at the bottom of the terrarium? In my guide for PF-tek it says to put quarter inch screen, did i miss something?
PS. What is FAE and RR style FC?

Holy HELL! BEAUTIFUL. Those look like PES Hawaiians, correct? That is what I am growing right now! They have been in the FC for about 4 days. I am envious! I hope I get a yield like that. Congrats man!

B+ from the hawks eye
i rolled it in fine verm from lowes. just used perilite on the bottom. im still not sure why everything took a really long time for me, but the result was worth it! i made sure to do my homework. i've been reading for years now, but never could grow because of my living arrangements. i didn't over do anything. just followed the tek, used common sense. and PLENTY OF FAE AND MISTING......... and i always talk to em'
and let me tell you. tripping on what you grew is so much more gratifying. and the trip has a much better feel too it imo

thats something i've been wondering. how come everyone always asks what strain a good grow was? now, im very new to the hobby, but it seems that you could always look at one to the other to tell. but i always see people asking. im guessing that there is just so much to do with conditions. how much light and of what kind is used, what kind of perilite and verm, the water and whats in it... etc. and i guess everything combined will produce an end result that can vary from grower to grower even if the strain is the same and from the same source.

what temperatures did you incubate the cakes at? i've found that temps really do make a difference in the speed of colonization. i have read some people think that 86-88 F may give rise to contams, i'm not sure, but a good safe temp is probably around 80 degrees. another reason why it may have taken so long is the size of the jar that you use--it looks like a pint jar. the pf tek suggests using 1/2 pints for the BRF-vermiculite mixture because BRF-verm takes longer to colonize than grains. it isn't uncommon for my 1/2 pint BRf jars to take up to 6 weeks to fully colonize. so your 4 month incubation period doesn't seem that unreasonable.
nonetheless, great grow and great pics! congratS!

I would think that we ask because we are seeing what the end result of a certain specimen is. That looks like a text book "perfect" grow you have. So I'm thinking, that is the most perfect fruit that strain is going to produce! Now, I'm thinking What strain is it. That way, I can compare and contrast to "other" strains and their "Perfect" fruiting potential. That kind of adds to our knowledge base and allows us to make an educated decision on what strains we may want to attempt to grow.

im incubating at 71-75 usually probably. that is one reason why i figured for the slow growth.

I incubated my Equadorians @ 72 degrees constantly and they colonized 100% in 12 days. You defintely do not need to incubate above 76 and anything above high 60s will still give you reasonably fast results.

Great work for a first go! FWIW, my first PF Tek jars took almost as much time as yours, with similar and excellent results on the first flush. Remember to dunk and flush until the cake is spent and you will be very pleased.
Your incubation temperatures sound adequate, and as tight notes in his post anything above 76 is entering questionable territory. A lot of people will tell you to peg your incubator to 80 and take into account the 5 degrees thrown off by the jars, but you will find your failure rate skyrocketing; that's not even considering grain spawn which should never be put into a TiT style incubator unless you are fond of stank ass bacterial bloom.
