ok, so I just dunked 3 cakes (in the same water like a dumbass) and they smelled fine whole but when I crumbled them they smelled sour. One of the cakes was slimy however the others were not. They still have the distinct sweet mushroom kind of smell... but the sour smell is starting to concerning me. I just assume toss them but if anyone thinks otherwise, let me know. I'm a noob so I'll take anything I can get. Everything I've read varies from let it run it's course to dumpster tek... so thats why I started this thread. oh, and no visible contamination, the cakes looked awesome.

maybe spray with a 1:150 bleach/water solution? I've already cased them in hopes of saving them.... plus I already had the materials ready.

based on some reading, It seems like its bacillus. I'm hoping the small dose of bleach will kill it. I just Isolated the casings to a seperate spot in the house and we'll see how it goes. the mushroom smell is there... and the cakes colonized fully, and very rhizomorphic.so Im gonna just cross my fingers. if not I still got some materials... and I have 2 casings and a few cakes fruiting now... I really only continued the grow for educational purposes..

Sweet smell is bacteria. Toss that one. The two that smelled like fresh mushrooms are fine. RR
