No, tattoos should NOT be something personal, unless you want them to be. Tattoos are body art, there's no guiding lines to what should or should not be a tattoo.

yeah i guess this is kinda true. i suppose just PERSONALLY i feel they should mean something. whatever you do to your own bodies are up to you guys.
i think its still important to make sure you think ahead to when your older if you'll still like it or not. i kinda made a mistake on getting one of mine.
no artist i've ever talked to ever said to just get something because its cool tho. they all ask if its something i'm really going to want.
the best of the artists i've seen wouldnt let you get knuckle tattoos or something that'd make you seem like a pretty sketchy character.

SapphireCat, thank you for clearing that up for him/her.
Yes I take great interest in the teachings of Siddhartha Guatama and practice them regularly in my lifestyle.
I live with Bi-Polar disorder and it helped me in a way no "pill" ever has in dealing with my life and my issues.
The first one I can take a phone picture of if you'd like? But thats the best I can do lol.
Above is the pattern I used, slightly modified with cracks in the stone to make it look older/aged. It reads OM MANI PADME HUM around the stone in a circle to represent repetition. It means have compassion for all living things and we want to repeat that practice often which is why it is in a circle. It is placed above my heart on my left pactoral to symbolize how it is dear to me.
I'll take a pic of it tomorrow with my phone for you but it will be horrible qaulity. Heh.
Edit: Central Syllable is HRI, if anyone cared to know...
