I just can't do E-books...

I read alot. A book a day if I'm not busy. I love to read, mostly non-fiction and history, but in the end I'll read anything w/in reach. Its my absolute #1 leisure activity. But I cannot get down with this whole e-book thing.
I've been reading paper books my whole life, and there's something about the tactile feel and even the scent of shelves full of paper books that makes me comfortable. I like holding one on my lap and having to turn the pages, and I like hearing them crinkle when I do. I like the physical weight of a book, something big and dense and full.
E-books ruin everything for me. Its no fun, there is no rythym to it, and it doesn't feel like anything more than words on a screen. I know this is irrational, and I'm completely aware that a book is nothing more than a collection of words on paper. But it feels like something more to me.
End Modern Technology Rant.
Did I mention that I listen to audiobooks when I'm in my car? Often?
Figure that one out...

I feel the same way. I get distracted too easily when I try to read an E-book on the computer.

I'm the same, mainly because sitting in a computer chair for that long isn't comfortable for me. I like to sit on my bed and read a book. Also, computer screens can hurt your eyes over a long period of time.

I'm not a big e-book fan either. When I was in college, a lot of the assigned readings were pdf files. Most of the time I'd print the pdfs off so I didn't have to sit in front of a pc screen and read them.

Same. I hate having to repeatedly reach up and hit a key to turn the "page". And sitting down in my chair is quite uncomfortable and unergonomic.

The only reason I get e-books is to get a hold of books I could not get otherwise, or want to preview.
I feel exactly the same way though, it just does not feel the same.

I print them. I still prefer a good bound book though.

I read Factotum as an e-book. It was kind of annoying, but I got through it pretty quickly. If it was a longer book I wouldn't have been able to stand it.

Hm, Ive always been curious about E-books. Especially the new Amazon book reader with the screen that uses actual ink like material to show the words. Seems convenient to just download any book you want and read it, have books stored etc.. Ive just never bothered to spend the 300 dollars to see how it is. I can see it being useful in some instances, like when I was reading Ulysses. I would sit down somewhere or lie down and read it, but the book was cumbersome. Too large to hold comfortably I thought, so I figure the reader might be more comfortable to hold. I hear though that every time you want to turn the page the screen flashes then loads the next page, and it takes a few seconds to do this. So that eliminates the ability to flip back some amount of pages to reread something.

Your not alone in the least bit. Books will always have a place... Ebooks are useful for quick references... but when it comes down to it, a good 'ole book that can take a beating and tha can go anywhere with you will always come out the winner.

I find it hard to read anything now that I'm addicted to audiobooks.
I can listen to an entire audio book per day on my iPod while I do other things instead of taking a week to sit and read it.

Yeah, I've been doing audiobooks alot lately, as I said above.
I much prefer to read, as I can read alot faster than I can listen to an audiobook. But i can't read and drive...
At least not safely...
