It's probably one of 3 types. 1. Amanita(sometimes deadly) 2. Lepiota. 3. Agaricus.
My bet would be on Amanita based on the habitat, *do not eat*.

You need to get spore prints and let us know what color they are.
The ones with scaly caps look like Lepiotas. The others I can't really tell. There appears to be a color cast to the photos so that I'm not sure what the actual colors of the mushrooms are.
The big things we need to know to get started on an ID are: Spore print color, habitat (what was it growing on/under?), attachment of gills to stem (free, attached, decurrent), if there's a ring what it looks like (look at young specimens to verify if there isn't one).

With pink spore prints and growing on wood they are almost certainly either Pluteus or Volvariella. The difference between them is that Volvariella has a volva and Pluteus does not. So which is it?

some pluteus species are reported as being halucinogenic. i have tried pluteus salicinus(sp?) before and they are not too bad. you might post a few pics of the pink spored ones you found and take a look here or here
--------------------
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

From your description the most likely species are Pluteus cervinus, Pluteus atromarginatus, or Pluteus magnus. All three are fairly similar, and are frequently confused for each other. Pluteus atromarginatus is distinguishable by having dark edges to the gills (you may need a magnifier). Pluteus magnus has an even darker cap, but a thicker stem (1-3cm), but you may have seen an unusual specimen.
Here is a link to a photo of Pluteus atromarginatus:

OK, sorry, try again... This thing is munging my html...
