The Symphony
    #7941977 - 01/27/08 06:48 PM (16 years, 5 days ago)

Who here has been recently?

I'm taking a music class for one of my general studies requirements and for one of the class papers we have to attend the symphony and write a review of it.

So some friends and I made a night of it on Friday. Went out to a nice restaurant and went to the symphony. The ticketguy at the counter asks us if we are students and we say yes and he proceeds to tell us that we get tickets for $5.00. And I'm thinking hell yeah, becasue I thought tickets were going to be in the $30 range. The man then whips out the seating chart and slides it across the counter to me and says pick a spot. "Wait, what?" I reply. "We have a lot of available seats so pick where you want." I press my finger to the laminated chart designating the front section and he says "Sure, that'll work."

He then proceeds to make a mistake and give us the symphony employees rate which was $2 a a ticket. So 6 of us got in for $12. Fifth row from the very front. I've never heard classical music that loud before. It was unbelieveable.

Here's the setlist:

Britten “Four Sea Interludes” from Peter Grimes
Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1
Stravinsky The Rite of Spring

The Stravinsky piece was absolutely amazing and loud as hell.

The lady who played the violin for Shostakovitch was out of control. She played nonstop for the entire piece. There's even a section of the piece where she just plays alone for about 5 minutes.

Yeah, everyone should go see some classical sometime. It's awesome.

I did acid at Tanglewood, a beautiful concert hall in Massachusetts, while listening to the Boston Symphony Orchestra play some classical composer's music (I don't remember who off the top of my head).

It was possibly my best trip ever. Amazing scenery, awesome music, and some friends to talk too.
