my humidifier stopped working.... why?

I bought a USH by honeywell. After about the first 12 hours it just stopped producing vapor. It's not due to a low point in the line, as the humidifier itself when disconnected does not do anything (it makes the noise, and I do feel a slight breeze, but no water vapor). is this a defect?
thanks

About the tap water...
I would assume he asked because tap water can contain high levels of calcium and chlorine. I'm not sure if the chlorine would cause any probs but my tap water has alot of calcium in it and it does a number on UltraSonics.
The way UltraSonics work is by vibrating a disk at an ultrasonic frequency under the water. This instantly vaporizes the surface of the water, producing the mist. But if calcium builds up on the disk, it can stop it from vibrating and eventually cause permanent damage. I've lost one of my UltraSonics to this build up and now only use drinking water.
As for the 12 hour operation time, that's a manufacturer defect most likely, regardless of mineral deposits. I've bought a couple humidifiers that died within 24 hours. Now I have a neat little one from Sharper Image that's been goin strong for a few months. It even has an adjustable on/off timer! WOOOT!
Cheers!

USH don't like to be on full blast for extremely long periods of time (from my experience) and they have locked up on me. Turn it off and let it sit an hour or two and try it again.
You don't really need to run an ultrasonic non-stop. You just need to run it enough to keep the humidity above 90
