well lets think about that, photography is just an instrument to art, I guess, with that being said you might aswell involve a subforum for guitar, drums, canvas painting etc... I just think that photography is used daily for most folks and is used in so many applications, plus people are always upgrading and buying new ones and this could involve a good place to get quality information from individuals with experience.

the music, art and literature forum is almost purely music lately, anything else gets pushed off the page. I'd love to see something made for photography, because it's generally a little slower paced too.

Art and photography should be a forum separate from music.... Music has a lot of threads and posts, and the art posts are sunk to the bottom of the forum in the matter of a few hours.... Both the photography and the art mixed would most likely be suited to keep up with each other better than being grouped in with music....
Edit: An Audio forum, and a Visual forum....
For what it means, shot down or not, that is my 2 cents....

Geo hasn't even said anything in this thread.
That's pretty fucking ridiculous. Look at the support its getting in the poll.
I should have read this thread before I posted in the "Why?" thread.

The Why Thread didn't make sense to me. Why complain about the Money forum? If you don't like a forum, don't go there. And besides, life outside is what counts, not what happens in here.

I said:
Quote:
Its true. The principle mission of this site at the time of its creation is very simple:
stopping the spread of misinformation about mushrooms.
As far as the community that has spawned forth from it has always been treated very open-minded-ly and unbiased-ly by the administration.
For a while, users were even able to create their own forums. Moderators were elected. The administrators from Ythan, Aphex, Thor, always upheld a very conservative approach to censorship and should be remembered for it.
OTD as ugly as it can be, and for the very reason that it can be ugly, is an important aspect of this community. It serves as a polarization for people on the other side of a social spectrum.
Both types are free to use the site and do.
The admins have always had the general idea that if a forum has potential for success, and is not themed around hate, its given a shot.
And this is good because it allows us to learn about our community and to open our own minds. Mushrooms are what we all have in common (or would if not for ODD and crap), and these are the people who use them. Some are successful in business, some give a shit about politics, some support Bush, some have scat fetishes, some pick their noses, some are doctors, lawyers, gypsies, gays, etc.
Never mind I guess. It really makes no sense not to give this idea a shot. People like to look at pictures. Members of this board are really good at taking pictures. It makes no sense not to do it.
Maverick is absolutely right. The media forum moves really fast and is very broad. It hurts nothing to try it out. What gives?

I couldn't quite figure that out. Any chance you can quote it to make it clear?

No I pm'd geo before making this thread, then while waiting for his response figured I'd get the public's opinion.

The fact remains: Geo, nor any other admin, didn't say no, so the wait continues.

Sorry for not responding to this thread sooner, I wasn't intentionally ignoring it. I see what you mean about how composition, equipment, darkroom techniques and that kind of thing doesn't really seem to fit in with the existing Arts forum. Photography definitely has a technical side to it. But the same argument could be made for most forms of art... composition is a factor with any visual medium, equipment can include musical instruments, paints and brushes, Sound Forge, Photoshop, even special pens and paper for the writers among us. It seems to me like the real distinction is between 'artists' and 'media', ie. creators of art and consumers of art. I think a better solution might be if we make Music Art & Literature the 'popular media' forum for reviews and interpretations and that kind of thing, and then make a subforum for artists themselves which focuses on the artistic process, sharing personal works and getting feedback, etc. Does that make any sense?

But then where would discussion of various camera types, filmography, lighting style, etc. fit in? I was hoping for a broad range of views to be included, like how to take the photo, what type of camera to use, how to touch up the photo, including said photo in online presentations, etc.
I have no problem with this being a subforum, just as long as people know where to go when they have a question or comment regarding photography and film. If you feel that Music and Arts should be the host category, I'll go along with that.
